I don't know if I overcooked it (I doubt it), or not, but it came out pretty stringy and the outside layer was tough/inedible.

It was about 4-lb ham, and I just combined a little onion powder, Coke, and black pepper and rubbed the ham with it. Set it on HIGH for an whour and then reduced to LOW for another 3 hours.

In fact I think this seems like it'd be way UNDERdone, if it wasn't already precooked. What went wrong? Should I have wrapped it in foil like I see some recipes call for?

It made great ham and pickle salad for sandwhiches though.

I did Christmas of 05. It came out okay but I cooked it for 10 hours it was

a 6lb ham. It was cooked okay, I used canned peaches and cloves with honey and cracked black pepper (I used the peach juices too). My ham did not come out stringy, though I don't think it was as good as when I cook ham in my oven roaster. I only did it that once, and I prefer to cook it in the oven roaster, in fact I even cooked my 21 lb Thanksgiving Turkeys in the oven roaster, taste awsome and comes out so juicy, I swear by my oven roaster. But to use a crock pot again to cook a ham, no way, though I use my crock pot a lot, just not for ham. I hope this helps you. ps. I bought my oven roaster for 24.00 @ Walmart believe it or not and it is my second favorite kitchen appliance, I have a kitchen aide mixer that I am crazy about and use 3 to 4 times a week. dianncy

Oven Roaster, meaning the big pan with a top? I have my fathers.

He cooked his hams & turkeys in his roaster. Cooks faster than normal since it is covered, but is really juicy. I never knew how to adjust the time accordingly. Please advise. Thanks.

Julie, I am not sure but since she referred to it as an appliance

I think she means a Nesco Oven Roaster. It is electric and comes in different sizes. I have an 18 quart one, that came with metal inserts to keep three different dishes hot. I like it too. Especially around the holidays when your oven is being used a lot. The only down side is storing it. It is a monster. I keep it in it's box down in the basement.
