Has anyone had experience using the Cuisinart Griddler GR-4? I used one yesterday, and had problems

I used it as an open grill, to cook boneless chicken thighs, shrimp, and veggies. The side of the grill marked "top" cooked the food noticeably faster than the side marked "bottom". Yes, I was cooking the same food on each side. I called Cuisinart and they said no one had reported this problem to them. They suggested an exchange, but I've had poor performance from several other electric appliances, so I'm guessing that this one is no better and I probably should just get a refund. Anyone have any advice? Thanks!

I've not had that experience, my Griddler seems to cook evenly. Would suggest exchanging it. It's...

one of my favorite appliances...gets used a ton making paninis.

I exchanged mine. The first one

took almost twice as long to bake English muffins as my electric griddle did. I had the thermostats set at the same temp.

I sent it in and this replacement Griddler is no better. I simply allow more time to cook than I used to.

I bought it because I didn't have room for both a griddle and an electric grill inside. (Before, I was using the griddle inside and a grill on my BBQ outside.)

As a test, I heated the griddler with the griddle plates, then closed it up and slipped an instant thermometer in through the drain spouts. It does not heat anywhere near where the thermostat is set.

I have one, I've done panini, fajitas, veggies, pancakes, bacon, and more

with no trouble at all. Easy clean-up, easy to use, it looks nice, heats fast, I really like it.

I have not heard from others on other boards that they were dissatisfied. I would

say that most I have heard about did not use it as a griller as you describe. I would have bought it principally as a panini maker and a one side griller. I realize that you are using it as described as possible, so I would demand a refund.
