Has anyone here done a tea party for little ones? Say ages 1 to 6?

I am doing one in a week and a half and don't know what type of food goes over best with kids that small. For drinks I thought hot chocolate and lemonade??

Any ideas or hints?

Mama used to make us "cambric tea" when we were little.

Kind of the latte version of tea. Very weak sweetened hot tea with lots of milk. We loved it.

Your grandmother sounds like fun! We never had "formal" tea, just used "tea" as an excuse

to get everyone on a sugar high of some description.
Cool Aid comes to mind....
And of course, my cucumer salad/sandwich!

I love this idea . . and have a couple of suggestions

I don't know how adventurous the little ones are, but how about . . .

Tea sandwiches . . .

PBJ tea sandwiches . . . little PBJ sandwiches, perhaps double stacked, crusts cut off, cut in triangles

Apple and cheese sandwiches . . . same presentation

Egg salad . . . you get the picture. This is all about presentation rather than trying something new.

Maybe the little ones can help assemble, or make their own.

For the petit four part, you could make mini cupcakes, mini brownies. . . mini anything decorated quaintly. Or, how about this . . . a chocolate fondue with cake and fruit? It wouldn't have to be too elaborate - it could even be just a small bowl of icing or something for the kids to dip into. You might even try some cheese for the more adventurous.

Those ideas are just what I had in mind! Kids today have more sophisticated palates

So I wasn't sure what would work.

This is what we have penciled in so far...does it sound like "little people" food?

cheese chunks on toothpicks
ham triangle sandwiches
pb&j on white bread roll ups, toasted
mini quiche

Mini cream filled profiteroles
Mini chocolate cupcakes frosted with whipped cream
Cookies

Hot chocolate served in little teapots
Lemonade

Love it. Also, I went to a tea once where they had a supply of

boas, hats, gloves and jewelry. Everyone chose what they wanted to wear. It was a lot of fun. If you could get ahold of some of these things, the girls would love it.

I've posted our twist on rice krispie treats before. Use a small funnel to shape them into kisses,

...like Hershey's chocolate kisses, and wrap them up in light weight foil. Shape them as they come out of the pan, and work somewhat quickly, while the candy is still warm.

Use your computer to print little messages on strips of paper and tuck them into the kisses as you wrap them with the foil. Let the paper strips stick out of the top, just like the Hershey's candy.

Very fun, and kids love them.

Yes, I think rhoward2va's idea of hats/boas/ etc is critical. Maybe some teddy bears?

Ages 1-2 seems a bit young for this. Can't hold tea cups, etc. Or are they just there for the photo op?

Yes, I agree on the 1-2 year olds but they are siblings and the moms can't afford sitters smileys/frown.gif

Can a baby sitter be hired for the time frame to amuse those kids in another room?

That way the older kids that can truly enjoy (and remember forever!) this experience can truly enjoy the experience.

What a great menu! Kids will love it! check for allergies re: PB&J. What a special day!

maybe offer some grapes or fruit? Goldfish crackers for the lil ones?
What a special day you are coordinating!
