Has anyone in the cold weather regions noticed...

that you overeat when a snowstorm is coming?! I was thinking about this the other day, and had realized that February was a bad month for going nuts in the kitchen.

Maybe its evolutionary/instincual?! I don't mean buying extras anticipating a shut-in, or staying inside and eating out of boredom, I mean eating to "stock up" as in storing energy. Like a squirrel hiding nuts?!

Ang? Cyn? Mimi? Eva?

Off the wall post, I know, but I just wondered. ;o)

Very interesting, I have always believed in the saying that if

you crave something you need it. I am a "almost vegeterian"except for fish several times a week. But when there is a cold snap coming, I find myself wanting red meat and enjoying it. My work takes me to warm climates and I cook all sorts of roasts, prime rib, steaks, etc, even my favorite lamb and very seldom even do more than a taste.

I eat more during cold weather.....

and it doesn't matter if a snowstorm is looming on the horizon or not.
I think it's because your body knows it will need more calories just to stay warm.

Dawn, funny you should mention this. I made it thru the holidays.....

without gaining back any of the weight I worked so hard to shed. However, it finally got cold in Jan and Feb and I gained 5 lbs!!! Now I can't get rid of them in spite of my efforts. (I have decided that I will donate my body to research. It should save many, many starving people--as my metabolism requires very few calories in which to function, just that my appetite wants a whole lot more!)

Hi Dawn! Don't know if it's the threat of snow or the fact that we may not be getting

out and around for a day or two. I think it's more that I'm stuck in the house, don't feel like cleaning, DO feel like baking and the result is the 6 pounds I picked up this winter!

I don't know if it's stress or cold weather...

But we moved to Maine from DC this fall and I baked more than usual - put on a few extra pounds (on top of the few extra I already had!) I did do some baking when storms were predicted.

But now we're moving again - this time to PA, so hopefully I will lose a few pounds. Unless it's the stress!

Me Too! but it's more the case of having so much non-perisable JUNK food like chips and

pb&J around, which we usually don't eat. Plus there's all that time cooped up inside... it's hard not to sit around listening to the weather eating and eating!

I was just thinking about something similar!...Spring & Fall....

I noticed AGAIN this spring that I tend to be constantly hungry. Over the years I've seen this pattern at the CHANGE OF SEASONS! Every spring and fall...I just seem to be an empty pit to fill with food. It doesn't last...it just starts with the seasonal change and lasts for about a month. Go figure.

I once heard that there is a type of ulcer...

that shows up only in spring and fall - wierd, huh? So maybe you're confusing hunger with a funny bottomless pit feeling (I have that too once in a while for a week or so, and usually it goes away on its own) - ?

I never considered the stress aspect of it... that's probably it. It's like my body goes on auto-pilot during bad weather - not just COLD weather, but snowstorms. Luckily we don't have other weather problems (hurricanes, tornados), so I associate the over-eating thing with snowstorms. Not boredom or being forced to stay inside, it's more like a "preparation" thing - or stress as someone mentioned above.

Funny how our bodies/minds work. If that's the case, I'm wishing for a very storm-free winter next year!!

I did notice that when we started posting to favorites, the weather was getting colder and the soups

and stews and one dish meal posts farrrrrr outnumbered any other posts. We were all hankering for "stick to the ribs" warming food. Yep, put that extra "blanket" on. Now, however, it is time to take that blanket off. . .

Maybe it's the daylight savings time thing. Let's work on banishing it if it causes weight gain.

Interesting thought indeed!

We've had the coldest winter in years AND I have gained 6 pounds since last September.....

You guys do the math smileys/wink.gif))
