Has anyone posted this Dining Out quiz?

Too late. I'm already hemoraging. I did terribly! I even fell for the frickemasher. BUT, funny story

On one trip to France Jacques ended up in the emergency room. It was a small-town hospital. While we were waiting for test results the orderlies asked if we had eaten. It was about 2:00 and we'd missed lunch. They brought us Steak Frites from the employee cafeteria, and handed me a bottle of ketchup with a big smile. At first I thought they were being sarcastic but then I realized they were kind and trying to be accomodating. I think I was the first real live American they'd seen in the hospital. We had a good laugh over it.

So if there is ketchup in the hospital cafeteria in La Ciotat, I bet there is a way to find it in a restaurant.

In Canada, we always ate fries with white vinegar. It's difficult to find in restaurants so I always

had to ask the staff in other countries, to look under the sink with the cleaning supplies and just put out a small dish for me. (not under the sink, but on my table) In restaurants in the Caribbean, they eventually figured out that I would keep asking for vinegar, so they started to stock it. I recall one time when a waiter came to the table even before I had ordered, spanking new shaker of vinegar in his hand, big smile across his face.

It's still my favourite way to eat them.
