Has anyone purchased/used the 25 lb. of all purpose flour at Costco?

I'm having trouble finding flour although Costco is well stocked with this. The label says great for bread, pizza and several other things but it doesn't mention cake or cookies which is what I'd like it for:)

Thanks!

All-purpose should be good for cakes and/or cookies. Unless the recipe

specifically says cake flour. If you can't find cake flour substitute ap flour minus 2 tablespoons.

Agree. Just be sure to weight it! My mother used the *dump* method for her strudel and

when she moved from 10 pound bags of flour to 20 pound bags, she just continued that method and dumped half a bag. But when her strudel dough wouldn't stretch properly Costco told her that the weight of the flour compresses as it lays in stacks on racks. And so just dumping half a bag could be more or less than the 10 pounds like she thought it would be. And two batches would not be consistent because neither would have exactly 10 pounds of flour

Don't be like Mom! (as an engineer, this drove me crazy that she wouldn't weigh the flour)

Yes Deb, I bought a 25 lb. bag at Costco.

It is the same all-purpose flour as you would buy in a 5 lb. bag. You can certainly make cakes and cookies with it. Bread, popovers, crackers, Naan, Pita, whatever you want-

yesss! I bought a 25 lb. bag last week at Costco. It was $5.59! Have been making sourdough bread the

past 3 days with it and it's been making some lovely loaves of bread. Made a batch of chocolate chip cookies too.
This particular bag is labeled H&R All Purpose Flour. By Miller Milling Company out of Oakland, CA. Friends in other areas of the country have also been buying 25 lb. bags at Costco by different millers. So the availability seems to be there. This bag I bought doesn't list the protein content of the flour or say what it's particularly suited for but when I googled the brand online (while standing there in front of it at Costco with others grabbing bags of it while I was pondering it, lol) I found a forum talking about making bread and such with it so I figured I had nothing to lose by trying it. At $5.59 for 25 lbs, the price was right for a trial. I felt I had little to lose.

Ended up going back the next day to pick up another bag for myself and one for a baking neighbor not leaving her house during Covid. It's a baking kinda neighborhood right now, LOL.

yes

A few years ago when I was learning how to make bread (without a breadmaker) with help from good people here I purchased flour from Costco. I thought it had better results than the Gold Medal AP I had gotten from the supermarket.

I also tried the "bread flour" from Costco and I didn't feel like it was better, maybe even not as good. Then Costco had these double packs of 10lb organic flour. I thought these were exceptionally better than the regular AP flour. Then they stopped carrying the double packs in my Costco and only occasionally had a single in stock. I always keep an eye out for them but not recently of course.

Paul, my neighbor said she found 10# organic flour at the Richmond Costco last week. In case you're

up for a road trip.

Thanks everyone! Much appreciated

My sister picked up some flour for me at a small meat market (excellent reputation) that also sells groceries. They get their flour in 60 lb bags and repackage in 1.5 lbs. She was able to get 6 lbs total for me and she didn't think to ask how much it was. Ends up they charged her $13. Criminal.

Went to the Richmond Costco yesterday and they still had the 2 10 lb packs organic AP flour

so I got 3 double packs (for myself and baking neighbors). Made a loaf of sourdough with it and I like the flour. $10.99 for the 2 10 lb. bags...nice price.

my local costco now has 15 lb "organic AP craft flour"

I haven't seen this before. I did not purchase it because I am good on flour now and my son who was baking several times/week started a keto diet and hasn't been baking either. My next project I want to try this buckwheat flour that I was gifted.
