Has anyone tried Halo Top ice cream--made with stevia. I still can't do stevia in hot drinks

(like tea or coffee) and I've tried over and over again.

I was wondering if the coldness of the ice cream would mask the issue I have with taste.

Plus it's got that whole "only 240 -280 CALORIES FOR THE ENTIRE PINT" thing going for it. Which, to be honest, is my typical serving size.

I have not seen that brand since I rarely look for ice cream, but

I do buy Trader Joe's cranberry juice that is sweetened with stevia and have not noticed any off taste. Nice part is that it is only 40 calories per cup!

Me neither. I just cannot get over the taste...

I even grew my own stevia one year and put leaves in with the tea when I steeped it. It is definitely an acquired taste that I cannot acquire.

Now yerba mate on the other hand. I'm becoming addicted to this stuff after drinking it in Argentina. The pound bag that I brought back is nearly gone. smileys/frown.gif

DD uses drops/liquid all the time and loves it. I found this quote on a website--could it be the

kind you are using? There were a bunch of others listed also.

Green Stevia Drops

This is a liquid form of stevia, but it is not refined. Approximately 1 Tablespoon of this is the equivalent of 1 cup of sugar. It has a stronger aftertaste than the refined powder with a more “licorice-y” taste.

I read about Yerba Mate because I had never heard of it. Are you using it as a sweetener?

Web MD told of side effects, some of which were not pleasant. I'm a bit confused as to its uses.

yerba mate ou erva mate as it's known in Brazil...

... is like a tea, not a sweetener

My Grandma was absolutely addicted to it, she would have it hot in the winter, ice cold in the summer

it is delicious, but the stuff I find in the US has nothing to do with the real thing from Brazil, particularly the south of Brazil closer to the border with Argentina

delicious flavor, now I'm craving some

That's been my experience too

I brought a pound bag back from Argentina and its already half gone. I can't put it down! I keep the gourd on my desk and a large thermos of hot water and fill it up all day. I was out of town recently and tried to locate some to satisfy my cravings. All I could find were these little sorry little teabags. It didn't taste anything like my bag of herbally goodness. I'm hoping to find a corner bodega that might be selling it.

A coworker shared a YM teabag and unfortunately, it tasted like bark. Old bark. Bark that should

have never left the tree. Bark with creepy crawling things underneath.

okay, maybe I'm getting a little carried away, but that's what it tasted like to me. He was drinking it for health reason.

So what you're saying is I didn't get the real stuff, huh?

Definitely not.

The real stuff is a wonderful shred of leaves, stem, flowers, and powder from the leaves. It is green and has a sweet herbal aroma reminiscent of fresh hay. The overall taste is of green herbal tea with a nice astringency and tannin balance like a good tea. It is bitter, just as unadulterated black or green tea and coffee are. When I first tasted it, I wasn't blown away by it, but the more I drank it, the more I appreciated the flavor. You can get 6-8 cups on the same leaves, it just keeps giving out its flavor, albeit more delicate with later brewings. Plus it is just so amazingly healthful. It is just loaded with all sorts of good things for your body. I am a big tea drinker and can't start the day without my mug of tea. But lately, I've been going for the Mate and bypassing the morning cup of tea. The other thing, the little dab of product in those teabags is such a rip off. When I fill my gourd, I use a couple spoonfuls which last me throughout the day with subsequent refillings from the thermos of hot water I keep at my desk. I'm also drinking a lot more fluid during the day as a result. Hopefully you can give the real thing a try. I'm totally hooked on it.
