Has anyone tried The French Slow Cooker by Michele Scicolone?

I'm considering getting that for my dad for his birthday. I got him a slow cooker for Christmas and he loves French food. Thought this might be a good choice.

Have not heard of the cookbook, but have been using my crockpot alot these days w/ the heat. Tx for

the tip on the cookbook, and sylvia, thanks for the recs. Will check it out!

Hmmm, haven't seen that but it sounds...

intriguing. I truly just don't get the crockpot. While I love the convenience, and have tried and tried to make it work, I just don't like the sad, sloppy, gloppy results.

Thanks Syl for the link to recipes. I shall take a look and give it a try.

I think the crockpot is a good option when I don't want to heat up the house.

But otherwise, yeah, I feel I often could do the same in my dutch oven and get better results.

So, this was funny. I reserved a copy of the cookbook at the local bookstore, drove over to pick it up, bought four other books, and was halfway home before I realized I forgot to get the cookbook! Chemo brain, anyone? (Although I did stuff like that before starting chemo, so can't really blame it on the drugs!)

Oh, I get that. Especially with a broken AC system. But everything I make in the crockpot just...

tastes so watered down and bland. Is it possible to get good flavor and not everything into a squishy paste?

Richard, I agree with you. Crock pot cooking doesn't do it for me either except for beans.

DH likes to prepare ribs in the crock pot but then the sauce has to be defatted and reduced to produce decent flavour.
