Has anyone tried to send frozen meals to someone?

I know someone across country that will be having surgery. Of course I can send something pre-made online but wondered if anyone ever sent their own food frozen?

If you've ordered something similar online, you may have a foam-lined box and the gel packs that

came with it.

I've saved my boxes from D'Artagnan, and re-frozen the packs. The food should be sent overnight and will arrive partially defrosted. The recipients should know this in advance so they can promptly eat it or re-freeze.

Otherwise, this is very risky behavior.

dry ice

is supposed to be superior for this purpose. There is a franchise that distributes it in some supermarkets. Usually near the front of the store where the special items are and I believe it is usually under lock and key because it can be volatile if mishandled.

Yes got all that Kansas City Steak things packed in dry ice, but I've never done it myself.

Was wondering if anyone else has. One of my work perks allows me a corp rate to ship with FedEx (which FYI, I found out does not guarantee shipments during the holidays...my overnight package arrived 3 days late. @#$%^&*&^%!)

An old boyfriend ordered me a six-pack of my favorite flavor of Ben & Jerry's

that was not available here any longer for my birthday. He got delayed getting home and the dry ice and ice cream had all melted.

Oh, ya got that right Honey! Whaaa!! I'm just west of Ft. Lauderdale and we

are just not used to this cold. John said there was heavy ice on his car this morning when he left. We are used to hot weather, our houses are built to stay cool, we understand how to stay cool. It's hard to get warm! We brought all the orchids up close to the house and covered them but really couldn't do anything about all the herbs. For most of them it would be an inconvenient setback but I really hope I don't lose the beautiful, massive rosemary plant. I have never had a time when I couldn't make basil pesto if the whim hit me. Excuse me while I pout, will you?

Ha. Ha. Ha. Verrrrry funny! This duckie is freezing her

begonias off!! I'm wearing sweat pants. I'm off this week and can't go paddling in the gulf!! It's downright criminal!!

She's in MO so I expect it would be cold there (isn't it?)

We were actually thinking of trying to find someone to come in and help fix meals/etc but so far no luck. Her surgery just got delayed today so we've got some more time to work on it.

I hope your rosemary made it. It made it through Austin winters, so should be okay. My herbs are

in pots and spent three days in the pool bath. Two cold winters in a row here, unbelievable. And I so know what you mean about meant for cooling. All the hard floors, lots of glass and high ceilings. Cooling works great. Heat not at all well.

Supposed to warm up this weekend. Perhaps you'll get some beach time. Of course, it was supposed

to be in the 70s today. I read 62 right now.

Actually, other than the basil, everything looks great.. And basil is like a weed

here. I'll just cut it back and when it gets warm and there is plenty of sun it will be a bush again. Actually, I think it was the wind that first day more than the very low temps. But I'm curious, what do you mean by "pool bath"? My pots are large and very heavy. They probably weigh 70# or more so not really easily movable. After Wilma some of our pool screen room ended up across the street in our neighbor's back yard pool but those pots were sitting in the same spot. LOL

I just use small pots, one herb to a pot. I have 11 pots right now and just stick them in the

bathroom that opens to the lanai. I have the a/c/heat vents closed, so they don't get too warm and it's easier than trying to cover them.

One of the houses in our neighborhood had 30-40 poinsettias planted in their front yard. They looked so pretty and they covered them with those big white plastic buckets like paint comes in, but I saw today they lost them all.

Brrrrrrrrr! I miss the snow but my

blood is too thinned out now for your climate!

I'm putting your webcam next to mine on my desktop to remind me that I AM a woosie! LOL
