Has anyone used powdered eggs?

Not only are eggs near $10 per dz right now, in many major stores you can’t get them at all given millions of birds here in CA have been put down from the flu. i do have a few on hand, but January is my I’m all sugared out I need a healthier savory low/no carb breakfast, thank you very much. This is usually bacon and eggs. Well, no eggs, no bacon and eggs. I‘ve been making protein smoothies, but while delicious, they don’t keep me filled long. Oatmeal will fill me, but I don’t like it without sugar, plus oatmeal = carbs.

Do powdered eggs taste horrible? I can keep my regular tea and toast or bagel w cream cheese, but new year, new me is what I strive for, or at least make me feel I’ve cleansed out the sludge of sugar from the holidays. The simpler, or do ahead, the better as I’m not a functional morning person.

Any ideas?

I don't even know where powdered eggs are located in the grocery store....ah, so I guess that would be a "nope, haven't used powdered eggs" from this time zone.

Odd you should ask. I rarely buy instant foods, other than pasta. But this creme caramel from Dr. Oetker got me wondering how it could be done so cheaply and almost instantly. And for $2 it was worth responding to my curiosity.

So last night... it actually did set up just the way it should and was so easy, anyone could create it. The flavour was okay, but the texture just didn't make it worthwhile. The powderiness was unappetizing as I think part of the luxury of creme caramel is the silky smoothness (as P Hollywood would say). The corn starch really did its work but I think that the finely-grained texture was beyond what corn starch contribues, so I blame the dried egg. So, I guess, it depends on the intended use for the egg. But other than that I have never used powdered egg.

It's very saddening news about all these birds. What I saw on the news was that one of our local cats died from cat food that originated in Oregon and I think that was what prompted the whole investigation. Perhaps we should be out stocking up on chicken for the freezer. And I wish I could send you some eggs @$5, but maybe those won't last long either.

Yes, something like 20 large cats at a preserve died and I read about a house cat. 😿 All of us on the west coast are in migratory bird paths and the fly over is spreading it to poultry farms. Just so sad. I did a grocery pickup today from the largest chain grocery store and eggs were not an order option.

They are telling people who keep chickens at home, to keep them inside the coop.
