Has anyone used Tofu Shirataki noodles

from House Foods? I have read about these noodles and this was the brand that people liked the best. Has anyone made these noodles or any other brand? What was your experience with them? I was reading that there is a peculiar smell when you first open the package, but it goes away when the noodles are cooked. They are made with soy and yam flour, so for those allergic to gluten, these might be useful. I noticed them as a new product in my buying club booklet. They only have 20 calories a serving and are low carb (I don't know how low they are).

holding up hand here! We've been making tuna noodle casserole with them

I also read the strange little note on the package, so I boil water, dump them in a minute or two, drain, rinse with cold water and continue on.

They are a fine substitute for wheat pasta in this recipe...a little...ummm, "bouncy" in your mouth? I wouldn't call it chewy, but there is a difference from your normal pasta expectation.

I would imagine anyone low-carbing and eliminating high glycemic pasta would want to give it a try..

We tried both the thin spaghetti pasta and the wider fettuchini size. Same bland taste, so it easily picked up the mushroom soup flavoring.

I've included the tuna noodle at the IMAGE link and another batch of recipes that we haven't tried yet.

I should say how we tweak this recipe

Not knowing if we would like them, we used one package of noodles, 1/2 Can FF soup, 1 6-oz can of water-packed tuna, 1/2 C peas, 1 cheese wedge and a sprinkling of fresh parma.

That makes one 6" square pyrex dish....enough for Larry and I for one meal. We've made it three times now...a serviceable lunch, although the water-packed tuna is still dry in the mouth.

wow Marilyn, I gotta try some of these if I can find the noodles. the carb count is so low

I could seriously chow down on these. thanks smileys/smile.gif
