I'm right there with you. I think in the case of halvah, less IS more.

I think maybe I have a Catch 22. I thought of making it because there are no
Middle Eastern markets close anymore, but probably to get really good fresh tahini I'd have to drive to one anyway.
When I was in my teens an Ashram moved into my small hometown. They ran a really good restaurant & bakery. They made their own halvah & I have adored it ever since. I've never had any as good as theirs was.

Might be fresh there. Lots of places have it, but not necessarily good brands or quick turnover
