Have any of you made the Chewy Chocolate Ginger Cookies from Martha Stewart's Cookies?

Trying to find out what went wrong. They're supposed to come out like crackles but my sister made them today and said they're super thin and didn't crack.

I've never had a problem with her recipes and wonder if any of you had made them. Thanks.

Yup, a while ago. They were very thin and quite greasy. Haven't tried them again.

Would love to know what I did wrong. Have baked a few cookies in my time so I don't think I made any of the novice boo-boos: loading a hot cookie sheet with the next batch, butter that was too soft...

I agree with you that for the most part her recipes always turn out. What happened to this one?

I think I know what the problem is though . . .

I took a look at the recipe on-line and there's one last direction towards the end of the recipe MY friend forgot.

After you make balls of dough, place them on the cookie sheet and let them chill, you're supposed to roll them in GRANULATED SUGAR.

If you skip that step, there's nothing that holds the dough in place or forms a shell that "cracks" in the heat. That was where my friend went wrong and where, I'm guessing, the other bakers ran afoul as well.

Of course, it's also possible the original recipe, as written, is flawed.
