Have I mentioned lately how much I love this site? Where else can you find

Marilyn, with your experiences with spices do give me some ideas....

I will be in Chi and Milwaukee in a few. I am sure I'll find a Penzey's somewhere near...what do you suggest should be top of my list...never been in a Penzy's.....(we get plenty of the Indian spice here.)
I'll be looking for the unusual but must have spices, and do you think the mills are worth buying?

Oh missy, there are others here much better suited to answer this question. I usually

just buy the basics, paying Penzeys to get freshness--it seems like their 4 oz is so much more than a bottle of, say, McCormick's 4 oz spice. Pure math logic says no...visualization says yes.

Love their peppercorn options. I've blown through a large bag of Tellicherry Indian Black. Have the pale green and pink ones for sauces, although I don't use those as often.

Gone through bags of the Old World seasoning, which is perfect when roasting whole chickens or adding to hamburger meat. Similiar to Northwoods, but Old World has a more pronounced celery aroma.

Like the Bangkok Blend, but it's a bit too zippy for Larry. (slightly irritating to find on their website. Doesn't come up without the EXACT name. Oddly, it won't come up when you search on Thai.)

Have fun in the Windy City!
