This was posted to me last year on Gail's by MadCityMike in response to a cranberry sauce recipe query. I made this with a simple Missouri wine, Velvet Red from St James Winery, St James, Mo. (Our local Sam's Clubs and Walmart carry it) It's a sweet, red wine.

I have to tell you that this was to die for! My family has been asking if I was making THAT cranberry sauce again this year. We're already drooling for it!

Cranberries Braised In Red Wine

16 oz cranberries

1 cup red wine

1 1/2 cup sugar

peel of one orange, finely chopped

1 cinnamon stick

Bring wine and sugar to a boil in saucepan, and add all other ingredients. Cover partially, reduce heat to medium. Cook until cranberries have burst and sauce is slightly thickened, about 15 to 20 min. Cool and serve.

I make this too..Cabernet Cranberries.. and it's even better with tangerine zest. Tks for reminder!

Yes! I used tangerine on it last year! Going to make Meryl's Cranberry Swirl Coffee Cake with it! smileys/smile.gif

THAT sounds wonderful! smileys/wink.gif

Thanks, Meryl!

I added a package of dried bing cherries to it, that was very nice.

I cannot remember if it was someone else's idea or mine. I also used ground cinnamon since that was what I had on hand. I think a little nutmeg too. The house smells glorious when you make this.

Yes, I will, Meryl. I think your recipe sounds wonderful and this could only make it better...

Not sure when I'll get it made, but sometime between now and Jan. Will post results. (I'm on a diet so not baking to eat stuff) *sigh

Since I have all the nutmeg I may try that this year. Thanks, Dawn! smileys/smile.gif

Keepin warm up your way? It was 70 here today! smileys/smile.gif
