happened to me now three times. You cannot even disconnect from the situation. It completely takes over your computer. I have had to completely shut down my computer to be rid of it. DH is away and hopefully he will have a solution to this. I have run virus programs because of this.

Don't visit epi if you want to avoid this.

I had this happen when I was searching for Sandra's mashed potatoes. I rarely go on the site,

and was confused by the pop-up box with the warning. I assumed it was because of going through a site that is currently not being maintained. I was able to close down, but did receive an error message re: MALWARE.

Thanks for the heads up. Terrible timing with Thanksgiving approaching!

Regards,
Barb

I have had the same thing happen to me, but I

thought it was my computer since no one else has said anything. What worked for me, was to close all the windows that I could, and the go down to the bottom taskbar and right-click on the Malware box and hit close. That closed the program and I was able to proceed without shutting down. Did your virus program find anything?

Also happened to me...

when searching for Sandra's mashed potatoes. I was able to close out the window and immediately ran a Norton AV scan and Ad-Aware. Creepy.

Dawn, I ran the virus program and it shows no virus. With the Holidays approaching

this is awful. Hope DH can resolve this tonight.

I also have had this problem. There is quite a discussion going on

about this on the forums. I just close my browser and then go back and have no more trouble. I wonder where the editor who claims to be keeping a eye on things, is. Seems to me that this should have been corrected by now. Typical EPI!!! I know someone will ask "why do you still go there?". Answer: Curiosity!

I had it come up this morning and was able to exit without closing Epi. Hope

that means something is being done?
EpiEditor posted yesterday they are on it?? That, to me has been the most obnoxious ad ever!!

I did clean out some files last night and make sure all my anti-virus stuff was current.

Gay, let us know what your in house guy thinks about it? thanks,
Nan

Is there no end to the problems over there? thanks all for the warning, I visit about once a week.

Just checked over at Epi and the Epi Editor states the Problem is Fixed. I certainly hope so.

I have to CHIME in . . .

At least TWICE now , I have followed a link from an entry here only to have my laptop infected by a virus. In one serious case, my IT department was not able to restore anything and I lost all my project emails (which is causing a HUGE problem now).

As a result, I don't open links, which means I am missing out on most recipes, etc., as everyone seems to use this option rather than printing/typing/copying these out in their posts.

This is REALLY frustrating for me. But, I can't really afford to open a link that I don't trust. Even as much as I trust all the posters here. I've lost too much already.

I am NOT saying it's a malicious intent on ANYONE'S part, but I learned the hard way (losing my project file history) that I can't take a chance opening linked files here. Just a comment to be considered by others.

Wow, that sucks. But don't you have an anti-virus installed?

I've never had my computer infected by a virus from following a link, and I spend my entire day online following links, it's my job. Since 1999!

I have a very good anti-virus program and I keep it up-to-date. I can't imagine a Web where people are afraid to click on links! The Web is all *about* linking. That must indeed be frustrating.

Try Nod32. It's WAAAAYYY better than the Norton AntiVirus that everyone seems to use. http://www.eset.com/ (there won't be a virus there, it's an antivirus company! ;o) )

I also believe very strongly that it's better to link to a site than to copy and paste their work here. It's only fair to the people who posted the recipe to send them traffic to their site. They did the work, they should get the credit.
