a lure to entice visitors to buy and eat--once quite a while ago, it was deep-fried Twinkies or something close to that as I recollect.

Well, this year, beginning August 7, 2009, at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis, Indiana,

--drum roll, please--you can buy and chow down chocolate-covered bacon!

I kid you not--I listened to the DJ's patter twice to make sure I wasn't misunderstanding. Now there is one combination I've never given thought to trying. Might be a new trend of salty & sweet in the same bite, huh? Oh, my, I wonder who dreamed this one up....Wigs

Oh, my goodness, somehow I've missed this until today. Guess I'd better plan to hit our State Fair!

FIL is in Hungary...Instead of smores or toasting marshmellows...They toast hunks of bacon!

You take a hunk of bacon about 3x3 inches and score it and spear it on a pointed stick, hold it

over an open fire until it gets hot and bacon juice starts dripping. Then you hold it over rye or Vienna loaf bread that's loaded with chopped onions and let the bacon juice saturate the bread. Salt, a little pepper and a cold drink - yummy - to die for. Then when the bacon is rendered out, you can eat that too. But it's the greasey bread(as my DH calls it), that's the best. Memories from my childhood going to Hungarian church picnics with my parents.
