Heather, how did your menu turn out for you? let us know :-)

We had so much fun!! The party was a big hit!

Everyone came, 16 people plus a baby and a kid, the weather was great and we had plenty of food!!

In fact, we had too much meat so I put together little care packages for everyone after I saved what we wanted to have for leftovers. Marc had too many vodka pink things (courtesy of Susan - thanks!) and ended up carmelizing the corn a tad too much on the grill, but they were still delicious.

For the London broils, Marc decided he wanted to do a different marinade and asked me for a recommendation, so I looked up Janet's Killer Marinade with Michael's modifications and they tasted great.

However they were tough, even after 1 1/2 days of marinading, and this has happened before with London broils for us, even after slicing very thin with the electric knife, so we won't use that cut of meat again. He did them perfectly rare/medium rare and the flavor was so great we will do the marinade again for NY strips or porterhouses.

The Oakland-style bbq sauce was amazing! I will post it next weekend!

At the last minute a friend decided to bring a green salad so I didn't make slaw, and I made a batch of cajun cornbread (after being outvoted on making Barney's heart attack garlic bread, my personal favorite!).

Marc's little girl was my kitchen helper and she did the jello salad herself and was quite proud. We prayed together to the jello gods and it unmolded perfectly. Funny, she's going to ask her teachers who the patron saint of jello is at school - wish I could be a fly on the wall there and see the nun's face! LOL

Our guests brought so many desserts, our buffet looked like a bakery display! I'm dying to get my hands on the recipe for the creme de menthe cake one gal brought, if I am successful I will share it with you. Imagine a rich bundt poundcake with the subtle flavor and color of creme de menthe - wow!

Also, the night before, we made rhoward2va's Fresh Strawberry Icing on white cupcakes and that was terrific!!! I will make that again, such a great flavor, easy to do and sooo yummy... We hid the cupcakes in the laundry room during the party so we could enjoy them on Monday and during the week. Sadly they are all gone now!

Thanks to everyone for all of your advice and help - I got the jitters and felt much better with your help and reassurance! Our legend of fantastic cooking lives on and is growing, thanks to all of you for helping me keep that illusion!!!

Next weekend, we are doing nothing! can't wait for that...

Wow Heather, a complete success! Sorry we made you buy too much meat, but I'm sure for your guests

their doggy bags were like a continuation of your party.

By the way, if you didn't cut the steak at a slant, then doing so might have made it less chewy. And I think the patron Saint of Jello (and all things jiggly) is J-Lo.

Oh but the leftovers were so good! everyone sent thank you notes saying

they wanted us to give them doggy bags every week! LOL. Thanks again!
