Help --Are the recipes in "Cooking Light" really light?

Because of health problems, I HAVE to eat more wisely and lose weight. No red meats, including the "other" white meat. No desserts - oh, lord, no chocolate?

Anyway, I've seen several recipes from Cooking Light that don't appear to be very low in calories or fat, just don't have extra sauces.

What has been your experience? Should I subscribe?

TIA

Hi Anna, just make sure you follow the recommended serving size for the recipes -

I've found that the intended servings sizes for a lot of the recipes are much smaller than I would serve in reality- and the portion I would naturally eat would not be considered "light".

AnnaX, I have been subscribing to CL for several years now and I really like their recipes.....

I probably cook more from this magazine than any of the others I get. Personally, I don't use these recipes when I am on a serious mission to loose weight. I use them when I don't have to be quite as strict with my eating habits. To me the recipes seem to be lightened up versions but not always as light as I may want. I think it depends on what you are looking for in a recipe. Maybe Cooking Light would be more of a "maintenance" tool for you?

I love Cooking Light...

but Lisa is right - to keep fats/cholesterol, etc. down you need to pay attention to their recommended serving size.

I have a nasty habit of doubling the 'sauce' for every recipe. Further - I never use the 'light' products called for but I certainly would if for health reasons I needed to.

I've never made their desserts, but I think there other recipes are so fabulous because they use lots of spices and herbs to punch up the flavour. I get MANY cooking magazines per month and CL is one of my favourites.
