HELP Can I freeze choc. chip cookie dough, if not how long will it keep? TIA

I freeze cookie dough all the time!

You can divide it into manageable portions, wrap it well, and freeze it for months. When you defrost, don't remove the plastic wrap until it's completely defrosted or condensation may form on the dough and make it too moist.

My caveat: if there is oatmeal in the recipe, freezing can change...

...the consistency of the baked cookie somewhat.

My favorite recipe has oatmeal, and if I freeze it, or, for that matter, let it sit in the fridge for more than a few hours, the oatmeal tends to soak up some of the wet ingredients and the resulting cookie has a slightly chewier texture than I prefer.

Slight, but detectable.

One night when I was up really late with the television on in the background,

I heard a woman recommend freezing cookie dough by the tablespoon (as individual cookies) on a cookie sheet. Then she put them in a freezer bag and baked them one or more at a time when she wanted them. She said that taking then directly from the freezer and baking them this way gave them chewy centers. Sounded good to me, but, of course, I never got around to trying it.

I've done this. The only problem is...it's so much easier to grab one raw cookie ball then

to gnaw off the corner of an entire batch of frozen solid dough.

I was hoping that freezing the dough would prevent that problem. Why waste time baking!!!!!!!!

thank you for your help.
