help!- forgot a recipe at home and think it is on the old gail's - is there a way to get to kitchen

There is no Kitchen Seek that works any more - smileys/frown.gif

Like Marilyn suggested, let us know what you are looking for any maybe someone has it or knows where to look in the archive for it.

That's what I was afraid of...thanks for the offers- it is the base for my passover strawbery....

shortcake and I think I can figure it out - I
will make a few practice ones this week - I remember 1/2 cup matza meal and 4 or six eggs but don't remember the sugar - I will start with a cup and see... let you know how it comes out.

It is a tragedy for the recipes lost. I have some and when I get home i will go through and post the names of what I have or check if they have been reposted - if not I will post them.

My epicurious link to the forum keeps crashing. I tried searching on

matzo +shortcake (and of course, the search gave me shortcake over matzo. I do not know what I am doing wrong with these searches...

...but I digress).

I got 135 hits, but the sucker crashed on me before I could search for any.

I'll keep trying, but I wonder if other folks are having the same problem.

Is this it?

I love searches...

This comes from a 1936 cookbook by Florence Greenberg (I think the first pages are gone) a heritage originating with my grandmother. Strawberry Shortcake with matza meal 4 eggs- separated > sugar rind = lemon pinch of salt, 1/2 c. sifted matza meal strawberries, whipped cream Beat until very light the yolks of 4 eggs and > c. sugar Add rind of = lemon , pinch of salt, = c. sifted matza meal and last the stiffly beaten whites of the eggs. Bake in 2 shallow sq. pans in moderate oven When cold lay a cake on a platter, spread thickly with strawberries That have been well sugared. (I dont sugar them so much they Are sweet enough.) Put some whipped cream on top, add the next layer Spread over the top and sides with cream that has been sweetened, flavored And whipped very stiff. My son is not a lover of strawberries so I always make an extra cake (9x13 pan) for him - just plain. Also good and great as base for any fruit.

This recipe was most certainly lifted from the swap or someone else also has the 1936 cookbook!! ..

At any rate you are great, Curious.

Marilyn, I think it was just blind luck that time. I went about it in my usual

I-don't-know-what-I'm-doing way. I figured there wouldn't be too many recipes with strawberries and matzo meal in them, so I put in "strawberries matzo meal" without the " and it was the second post that came up. The funny thing is, she used an alternative spelling of matzo and I'm not sure why it came up at the top, must have been the only post with strawberry and meal. I posted the search link, don't know if it will work.

If there is a secret, it's trying to use words that wouldn't ordinarily be used together, that's not always possible. I wish I had a definitive way, but I don't. I really enjoy the challenge of the search when I have time. Yesterday it got me out of some house cleaning for a few minutes. :-0

Oh. I've been following their "hints" to use the boolean AND...

Most search engines take the first word as the primary word, but theirs doesn't.

And I guess you aren't having problems with the site freezing and crashing on you?

I've seen that a lot

for example, the pineapple margaritas (margahooties) have been lifted to pretty much every drink recipe site on the planet with no attribution.

I noticed that also, are there vast search engines out there that pick them up? Seriously, I wonder

how it does happen.

I haven't had problems with the search, but

can't get anything to come up in the old (easy to read) format. Just those dumb green pages!

I'd love to know how to access the batches of archived posts that are missing from the Way Back Machine. Epi's new (green) search results are very incomplete and IMHO, worthless.
