HELP - I need a recipe for a simple salsa that tastes like the restaurant stuff

I have tried all the ones on Pinterest, ones friends gave me, and hubby still isn't happy with any I have made and he wants to make it at home so we don't pay $12 for a bag of chips and salsa. Simple - no chunks of onions, some chunks of tomato, some green in it that I think is serrano pepper and MAYBE some cilantro but not much.

Here is something to get you started. A friend gave this to me, she got it from

a man who worked at a restaurant called The Red Onion.

Red Onion Salsa

1 large (28 oz) can of whole tomatoes, drained with juice reserved
6 garlic cloves, peeled
4-6 jalepeno peppers, tops removed
1 medium white onion, chopped
4-6 green onions, chopped
2 large fresh tomatoes, chopped
handful of cilantro, chopped
1/2 tsp cumin
juice of one lime
salt and white pepper to taste

In a blender, liquify jalepenos and garlic cloves with reserved tomato juice.

Add canned tomatoes, blend only until chunky.

I know someone who had the same issue. After trying everything she knew to please hubby

she handed him tomato, cilantro, and onion starts, and said, "go to it". He did and came up with the best salsa ever. They make it every year and freeze for winter use, as well.

I don't know if I posted it but I sure can confirm it. If you're looking

for a tex/mex restaurant style salsa then this it. Just give it a day in the fridge.

This is very good, and tastes like the restaurant salsa. It only has a small amount of onion...

...so you could leave it out if you wanted to.

The only tweak I do is to add two fire-roasted, peeled, stemmed and seeded poblano chiles. I think it adds a bit of depth, but, again, as written, this recipe is really good.

I think Meryl first posted a link to it in 2010.
