Help! I put a pot roast in the slow cooker at 8:00 this morning, and turned it on low. Just talked

to DH (it's now 2:45, almost 7 hours after I turned it on), and he says the control lights are blinking, and the thing is not even warm. I had him turn it on high. Will it be safe to eat? TIA!

Why chance it?

Flashing lights don't usually mean good news, IMHO--in the kitchen, or anywhere else.

I say toss it out and order in pizza or some other delivery. Why take a chance?

when in doubt,....

throw it out.

i'd betcha a quarter it's ok, but why risk it?

Thanks, guys. As it turns out, it was school fundraiser night at the pizza place, and DH had already

ordered some by the time I got home.

Just a thought for anyone considering "chancing it": If you, or a loved one, comes down with...

...a serious case of food poisoning, you would be willing to throw out every bit of food in your kitchen, fridge and pantry to not have to go through the ordeal again.

My close friend almost died from ptomaine (sp?) poisoning years ago. He was in bed for nearly 3 weeks, and lost close to 60 pounds in the subsequent months trying to recover.

Oh, and he was a strong, well-built 19-year-old at the time... never seemed to get sick.

It was awful to watch. So, throwing out one meal, or one piece of meat isn't such a high price to pay.
