ISO: Help! ISO vegetarian recipes to bring to a new mom who is nursing

In Search Of:
Quiche and soup are always great choices - with minimal prep for mom. I always

remember my best food gift was a new mother was an assortment of cold salads (pasta and veggie) that I could just spoon onto a plate and eat with no prep - what a gift to a new mom who is nursing and hungry! smileys/smile.gif

I have two T & T soups - one for curried pumpkin and the other for a carrot one, both given the seal of approval by my veggie friend. Let me know if you want me to post them.

In addition to what Lisa said, I would think she'd love a mixed spring lettuces with strawberries,

goat cheese and pecans or walnuts, and goat cheese, with some watermelon on the side. This is so delicious and so simple just to throw together...

I think strawberries are out for nursing women; friend of mine w/ a newborn won't touch them >>>>

Same with lentils, peas, kasha (gas-inducing for mom and baby)... Too many nuts, same thing.

But I brought her pasta w/ tomato sauce, and that went over quite well, today! smileys/wink.gif

Good luck! Also, anything bite-size, that Mom can grab with one hand (while nursing with the other) is a big hit.

Why strawberries?Beans and things like that need moderation

because of the gas. Onions and garlic may or may not agree.

I am just guessing here, but perhaps

the mom is concerned that the strawberries will get to the baby through mom's milk.

Many books suggest that babies should not receive strawberries, eggs, whole milk, peanuts, honey etc until they are over 1 year.

I have never heard that the mom should not have them, but that is the only thing I can think of...

Barb

depends on the child; some are fussy and squalling after something that the mom ate . . .

that didn't agree with the baby, as he/she got it through the milk. Onions, beans, broccoli are common baby irritants via mother's milk.

I quickly learned that having tea, even in the morning, kept my firstborn up all night, so bye-bye tea till she was weaned! Momma needs her sleep. . .

This is true - I've had friends who could eat anything, and another who had to eliminate all acidic

food while she nursed (+ a vegetarian) - she joked about living on PB & J and protein pasta with butter for a while.
