Help me make a grocery list? Things I can keep next to the bed/eat cold...

Because the only thing I can think of is cheetos and I should make a list. (Right now my SIL is bringing me dinners and I'm eating them cold.)

However, is it possible to try and come up with something relatively healthy or something besides chips to keep on hand to eat? Since my micro is over the stove, even something that has to be zapped would be a challenge (but it could be done if I really have to, but getting to the kitchen is an ordeal).

Thought this might be a fun challenge.

What would you keep next to the bed to eat if you were suppose to be on full bed rest (or couldn't reach the kitchen counters)?

Cheese, crackers & fruit, dry sausages, soup in a thermos, trail mix, lots of cookies

Pull-top cans of tuna & crackers. Can someone pack you a lightweight picnic cooler for the day? If so, cold salads- pasta, green. Quiche or tortilla espanola. Gazpacho in a thermos.

I put an iced-down cooler & a big wicker basket nxt 2 DH's recliner chair so he can reach sliced ham

& cheese, bread &/or hamburger buns; mustard; fruit of all kinds to counteract the side effect of pain pills + fruit juices; cookies & brownies; water; sodas; crudites w/ herb dip; potato chips; cheddar cheeseball rolled in pecans w/ crackers; Subway sandwiches &/or Jimmy John's for some variety or if I don't have time to assemble something similar before leaving for work; gazpacho; straws, napkins, plastic silverware, paper plates & cups; his ice pack; yogurt, PB & Jelly. This will generally keep him fed & hydrated during the day until I can get home from the office!
I've been setting the above stuff out every weekday morning since our biking accident on June 3. He "only" has 2-1/2 more weeks of non-weight-bearing rules for his right leg/side due to the broken pelvis. At least he can hop on his left foot w/ a walker if he really wants something nuked. (He only occasionally does that as movement of any kind = pain.)

Oh, yes, I also put an extension cord w/ power strip near Paul along w/ a little hot pot he can plug in for heating water, & that way he can make one of those dry noodle soup mixes in a cup for himself.

Maria, many healing thoughts from southern Indiana are with you! Wigs

crock pot? with soup etc, or wrapped up sandwiches. cup of noodles if you can heat water

protein bars/granola bars. if on pain meds---really watch out for getting "stopped up". it was miserable. take some fibre in your liquids.

(((((Maria)))) In addition to the great ideas here, you should consider

getting a small microwave to keep close to you to warm foods/soups, etc. A counter top water heating dispenser would also be helpful.

I also like protein bars - the brand "Pure Protein" are very good, as far as those things go. They sell them in most grocery stores and a variety pack at Costco. I like the peanut butter one the best and chocolate chip is also nice.

Sorryto be late, Wigs' ideas are what worked for me

when I was on full bedrest one summer. DH put a small cooer next to the bed every morning. Plus, get the computer moved next to you! I got caught up on cleaning out computer files and tossing old magazines. Good luck. (Question of my own coming up below.)

Great ideas here. Put Activia in that cooler -- dried fruit (mangoes come to mind)

should help with the awful possibility of constipation. Just not being vertical adds to the possibility here.

I think I would keep vegetable platters with a dip like hummus in a cooler beside my bed.

You could have cucumber and carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes and cauliflower and broccoli florets, and have hummus, tatziki and a marinara sauce for dipping the veggies.

Also, a couple of sandwiches Pan Bagnat-style (you can put them in the same cooler as the veggies), and maybe some fresh fruit?

And if you get a large cooler, you'll be able to fit a box of large salad in there too smileys/smile.gif

Also, ice tea and a thermos with coffee would be on top of my list smileys/smile.gif

This are all great ideas - thank you!!

Right now a friend brought cookies/granola bars/crackers/trail mix for me to keep bedside, and I spent yesterday blindly munching. Realized putting on weight (when I already need to lose) would *not* be a good thing.
