HELP! My self-defrosting stand alone freezer has a layer of ice

on the freezer floor (underneath the basket). This morning, I unplugged the freezer, removed the basket, used a hair dryer to melt all the ice buildup (the drain tube in the back had ice buildup), then used a turkey baster filled with boiling water to ensure the ice in the drain tube melted. I was so proud of myself. I just checked the freezer and there's ice buildup on the freezer floor again! What am I doing wrong?!

Just guessing here--does the freezer have coils that need to be cleaned?

check the owners manual or if you can't find it get on-line - maybe there's a tech chat support you can find for the manufacturer.

Good luck!
Debbie

Debbie may have the answer. When you say freezer "floor", this is inside

the freezer box, not the defrosting water catch tray--right. Where is the "drain tube in the back" coming from--and going to? I recognize that from problems I have had with a fridge/freezer but not a freezer.
For what it may be worth, I just had to have my door gasket reattached. Is your gasket good and tight?
Oh, wait, something like this has happened to my house AC and there was a plugged drain pipe that needed to be blown out--as did the one in my fridge.

Mia, you may not be doing anything wrong. I had this happen a couple (m)

of weeks ago in the freezer of my new refrigerator. It turned out, that the timer had failed and had to be replaced. The maintenance people had also thawed it out and that didn't work. I was without a refrigerator/freezer for 6 days!!!! The new "refer" was under warranty and I had to wait for Sears to take care of this. "We never miss the water, till the well runs dry".

I would definitely check the coils, like Debbie said. I had that happen with

my freezer on the bottom fridge. I am embarassed to say I had never cleaned then in 2 years - that did the trick.

It will save an expensive service call if that is what is happening.
