the following error message:

"This file doesn't have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options Control Panel.

What does this mean and how do I fix this. Help!!!

Meryl ...If you need help changing your WordPad file associations, maybe I can help...check your PM.

Thanks, Ruth, I tried that, but Wordpad is stupidly not listed. Do you believe it? It's a program,

but not listed as one - thanks, Bill Gates. Other programs are listed, such as Microsoft Works, IE, Notepad, etc., but no sign of Wordpad. I noticed that on every computer I've ever had - Wordpad was never listed as a Program, but yet obviously *is* one. So the "genius" Bill Gates has screwed up yet again. Anyway, I'm really pissed off. How can I change an association if it's not listed?
But Wordpad obviously does still exist on my computer (I have Windows XP). And I found a convoluted, incovenient way to get to my files. First I click on Wordpad, then I click "File" then I Click "Open" then I click the file, and it opens! It's such a hassle. So somehow, it's still showing up via Wordpad, BUT, when I do it the usual, easy, hassle-less, normal way, by simply clicking on the document, I get the stupid error message. Just shoot me.

Hahahahahahahahahahah! Besides, it's not an Internet problem, it's a Windows

problem. But even if it were an Internet problem, Hahahahahahahahahahahaha! (Yes, I'm slowly going mad).

NFRC: One more try...

I have Windows XP as well...

I notice that WordPad is not listed as a file association when I go through Control Panel, Folder Options, File Types...but when I check under the file extensions (in alpha order) I can find RTF (with a "W"ord symbol to the left of it). That should be it.

However, instead of doing that, I just located a WordPad file on my system and, instead of opening it, I right-clicked it and selected properties, etc. Eventually I was able to select WordPad or Microsoft Office Word. (In my case WordPad documents are associated with Microsoft Office Word.)

Anyway, hope that helps...

Ruth, I tried that before, but couldn't find Wordpad listed, but ... it's now fixed! A great person

on able2know.com, told me to look for Wordpad on Search. It came up as: C:programFilesWindowsNTAccessories. I then went back and did what I had done before, ie, chose a file, highlighted "OPEN WITH, clicked "Choose Program," "Browse," etc. Still didn't see Wordpad listed, but I did find "Windows NT. I clicked it on, then Accessories, Wordpad, and OPEN. And now Wordpad shows up under "Recommended Programs" after choosing "Open With." Why it never showed up in the first place... well, you know what I think of Bill Gates.
What an ordeal. So far so good. I was freaking out when it finally worked, and I offered to send my helper some deep dark decadent brownies as a thank you!
Thanks again for your help, Ruth!

Thanks! But ya know what I really don't understand? Why the Wordpad file says

"Windows NT", when I have Windows XP? Just another Microsoft mystery.

I think it's time for a glass of wine. I deserve it smileys/wink.gif I haven't even eaten dinner yet - This "thing" had me going for hours. I'm just starting dinner now, and it's 11:40 PM here. I'm planning on having a slice of my favorite chocolate cake for dessert. But, of course!

An easy way to get to Wordpad.....

Go to Start, Run. In the "Open" field, just type wordpad and hit enter! Viola!
Thsi also works for notepad, but I like wordpad better, as it can be edited.
