Here is a LM shot of our Marines unloading bicycles from last year's Bikes for Tykes

As we collect the money, they go to Walmart and K-Mart to pick the bikes up. During the five weeks of fund-raising, they deliver them to our facility and stow them in the cafeteria for everyone to see. Then the day/night before the presentation, a horde of LM elves descend on the toy stores and buy thousands of $$ worth of toys with the cash donations for younger kids, while the bikes go to the older kids.

There are 68 Reserve Marines in this group. 28 of them were in Iraq last year and returned home to FL in August, all safe. The second batch of 40 are there now. I don't know "who's who" in this photo; they all look like babies to me and should be skateboarding by the ocean.

But you should see them in full dress uniform and standing at attention on the final day of Toys for Tots with hundreds of bicycles and hundreds of toys surrounding them.

That's always a day for waterproof mascara.

Thanks for the photo Marilyn...

the second graders at my son's school all drew cards for me to enclose in my goodie box. I will print out copies of this photo so that I may take it to the kids who drew the cards. They will love seeing who they made the cards for. I am going to enclose them in my box, but they are for all the Marines to enjoy, not just my recipient. If there is a better way to do that, please let me know. Thanks!

What a lovely idea, Dawn. You might want to tie a ribbon around them with a note that

these are for everyone to share/read.

I'm betting that will be the sweetest thing in the box.

Marilyn, what company do you work for? I love that they are so civic-minded! Also,

when you get your picture of those handsome (young!) men in their full-dress uni's will you please post the picture?

You are an awesome lady!

Deb, I work for Lockheed Martin. And unfortunately, I can't take any photos...

we're not allowed to bring cameras into the faciliy. This one was taken by the company photographer for publication of the volunteer work. I'll try to see if I can get any of last year's presentation.

well no wonder they are so good at supporting the troops! Ah, don't worry about

the photo - I can google an image on the internet. You've got other things to worry about!

Take care!

Debbie

Oh my gosh, I picked up the cards from my son's teacher today.

They are adorable, and the teachers included the school's email and snail mail addresses too, in case the Marines wanted to correspond with the children.
I looked at the cards and they are heartfelt, adorable, and show the innocence of children.
I hope the Marines will have a sense of humor being called "army guys" a few times. As that tends to be the generic term for our servicemen amongst kids.
There are some that are quite blunt, like we hope no more army guys die, and others that show the sense of humor of an 8 year old.
Example:
Knock knock.
Who's there?
Dakota.
Dakota who?
The Dakota fits fine, but the pants are too long.
LOL! My kinda kid. I will try and scan some of them and post them to photobucket. The cards and notes were beyond my expectations.
