Here's a fun new blog I've discovered: Luna Cafe

ooh! That Rhubarb Cardamom Lime Muffins sounds good.... maybe sub rhubarb for strawberries?

I'd love to travel with Alice (or her mom) any day -- they seemed to hit the best places!

Is that a fritter on top of that pot de creme?

Magnolia, if you are lurking, I think you will like this one...Chicago architecture is praised

Thanks Barb . . .

This is like a day in my 'hoodS!!

I work in the same building as the Architectural Foundation, where all the bus and walking tours start from, so I may have "seen" Alice Q. Foodie and her mother, but didn't know it. Too bad they weren't here currently - the Architecture Foundation just installed a HUGE model of the City of Chicago (downtown) that takes up almost 3/4 of the lobby of the building (where Daniel Burnharm had his offices.) It is STUNNING - and the detail of the individual buildings is incredible. 'Da Mayor' will be at the opening this Thursday evening. I think in part it was commissioned for the Olympics (ever hopeful!!)

And, Second City is less than a block from where I am currently living in Old Town. I live in the "epicenter" of Old Town, Crilly Court, which was developed by Daniel Crilly, who developed much of Old Town following the Chicago Fire. On Crilly Court (until recently a private street) he built townhouses on the West side and a series of buildings built around a courtyard that has a definite New Orleans feel to it. The townhouses are now multi-million dollar properties, and the newly renovated Crilly Court condos are very special.

I lived here 30 years ago and the day I moved in I said if this EVER goes condo, I am going to buy. And I DID 28 years later!! It was a little over my means at the time and is still a little bit of a struggle financially, but it is WELL worth it. I'm VERY, very happy here.

For all of those that "know" me from before, I still lurk frequently, but don't post often any more. Just keeping my head down, doing my work, trying to stay employed and hoping to take that trip to Greece this summer.

Traca~ Thank you for this site, I just now made the Raspberry Cream Cheese Coffee Cake~ DELICIOUS..

Except I didn't have any raspberry preserves, so I used strawberry preserves and put a strawberry icing (I just added strawberry extract instead of the vanilla) and it took 20 minutes to cook (for my oven) It also looks like the picture ~ I love this recipe!!

The most easiest dough I ever worked with and it is a snap to make and it is so tasty, flaky, and not hard at all.

Bet I can use this recipe to make Apple Strudel, just make the apples like an apple pie and use instead of the preserves, that is next Sunday!!! smileys/smile.gif

My guys are devouring it right now.

So easy easy easy to make and delicious, tasty, and definitely a keeper. This is now in my Sunday morning rotation, now next to Pat's Cinnamon rolls.

DH and Son say Thank you too.

All this Chicago talk makes me homesick! I love my life in Seattle, but

seriously miss Chicago. Magnolia, I used to live at Wells & Ohio by Ed Debevics (summertime with the windows open, we'd hear, "Party for Smith, your table's ready!) and then BF and I moved north to Sheridan & Montrose. At the time it was supposed to be an up & coming neighborhood--it never "up and came" while we lived there!

I worked in both the Water Tower and the Bloomingdale's mall on Michigan Avenue. And I ache for a good old Sub Station sandwich and deep dish pizza pie!

But most of all, I miss the people. I miss random chats with people in the grocery store or cab drivers that insist on showing you their favorite hole in the wall joints.

I studied architecture too (my dad was a salesman for major building supplies--folding doors, stair cases, gym floors, etc.) Lived in Springfield, IL for a period of time and often had access to the Frank Lloyd Wright house.

Are you a Frank Lloyd Wright fan? Have you ever seen "Partner to Genius" about Frank Lloyd Wright's third wife, Olgivanna? It was so fascinating, I actually bought a copy.

Do they still serve lunch at Marshall Fields? That was one of my mom's favorite things to do when she took a trip up from Peoria.

Ahh...sounds like I'm ready for a trip back to Chicago, eh? smileys/smile.gif
