LM's "Bikes for Tykes" deadline was today and yesterday we were still 54 bikes short of meeting last years total. Bike donations are $10 a piece and a whole bike costs $100, so we were looking at $5400 in 48 hours.
When Debra sent out the broadcast message to tell everyone the status yesterday morning, I decided to put my calories where my mouth is and told her that I would donate a White Chocolate Cheesecake to the first six people that bought a whole bicycle.
All six were taken in 20 minutes! That's $600 just to get a few free cheesecakes. Personally, the logic doesn't work for me, but hey, it got them to donate bikes!
So I just got back from Publix where I stopped at the bakery after suddenly realizing, "How am I going to get 6 cheesecakes to work?" I asked the night bakery manager if I could buy six boxes for these cheesecake donations. He kept showing me pie clams and I kept trying to explain the shape of springform pans and finally pointed to and asked if I could buy the white cakes boxes. He apologized and said they were not allowed to sell them because they have Publix printed right on the box. But he asked me to wait a minute and came out with six tall clear plastic cake bottoms/lids and asked if that would work. And I immediately said YES!
Then he said, "You can have them for free. Just tell them at the checkout Cameron said so."
I floated over to the spice station looking for vanilla paste (why, I don't know because this is Edgewater and no way would they have vanilla paste)..and Cameron followed me to Aisle 6 with a little Post-It signed and dated by him. He stuck it on the carriers and said: "I just wanted to make sure you don't have any problems at the counter."
See...he doesn't QUITE cancel out Eva's Bakery Grinch, but it helps a bit to balance out the world of Kitchen Karma.
