It's a little different from other pumpkin breads, since it only has allspice as the spice. Which is a good thing, since I'm out of cinnamon, cloves, etc. etc.

I just put in an order at Penzeys - $82.00! Yikes! Oh well, that should tide me over for a while, but in the meantime, at least I had allspice for this recipe.

At least I think it was allspice - it was in an unlabeled jar (why do I always think I'll remember what those spices are??)

I made them in two brown/gold paper mini loaves, so I had to bake it about 40 minutes.

I omitted the raisins, since I didn't have any;

I ground up the mystery spice in my coffee grinder;

I used olive oil for the vegetable oil.

So nice and moist and perfect!

Thanks aajay and Mimi! (maybe that pumpkin string can go into the great threads - waddya think?)

Oh I need to make those again! So glad you enjoyed them. :eek:)

There is a pumpkin entry already in the Great Threads. :eek:) Are you referring to that one, or is there another one?

You're welcome. So nice to know someone else liked them and so far away from New England.

I'm REAALLY enjoying this, aajay! It belongs in T & T bread category- can you post it?

The more I eat it, the more I like it! I really like the allspice in it.

It's not a spice I normally would have recognized - the only time I use it is when it's mixed up with other stuff, like cinnamon, ginger, etc. I can't even remember what I used it for.

Since it was the ONLY spice in this (which is pretty unusual for a pumpkin bread), the flavor really stands out, and I love it.

Thanks again! I'm an allspice convert now smileys/smile.gif
