I was a joyful lurker when I found Gail's years ago. The wonderful sense of community there continues here, and so I try to catch up on the posts as often as I can.

My grandma was a fine farmer's wife who showed this little girl how much fun it was to push bread dough around and make sweet rolls from the trimmings. My mother, on the other hand, was/is a terrible cook. Can you remember Appian Way Pizza mix and Lawry's spaghetti sauce? Ewww!

Since Mom worked days, I started cooking family dinners in 7th grade. I like to try out recipes and made sauerbraten and gugelhupf by 9th grade from recipes in the Sunday Parade magazine.

I still love to read delicious-sounding recipes but have little time to cook so Mimi's forum here is such a pleasure. You can see I'm doing this at midnight.

I teach, look after four old parents, and entertain myself here. Friends think I am a good cook but that's only because you provide great recipes and advice for the occasions. Someday, I'd love to take cooking courses and really find out how to flavor food.

Meanwhile, I love you all. May you have the best of new years.
