Hiya Swappizens! I'm back from my little adventure in Santa Fe and already miss it.

We dined in so many amazing places, and of course I took lots of photos, so I'll have to write up a little recap.

It's nice (I suppose) to be home, I made up a batch of soup from lots of great local goodies from the farmers market yesterday, including what the egg man called a 'soup chicken'. ever hear of one of these? He was 2.5 lbs, still had all accoutrement but was cleaned, so I stewed him well in his private hot tub with lots of veggies and tried not to look him in the eye or notice that he needed a pedicure. It took 3 hrs for the little wee thing to get tender - and the meat (what there was) was kaput after that but the broth is wonderful. I added brown and shitake mushrooms, escarole, leek, red cioppolini onions, tiny egg soup pasta and big rough hewn slabs of carrots.

Comfort in a bowl! And now that our little heat wave is gone (trust me to go out of town and miss the best weather all year! LOL) soup seems the perfect dish...

So it's nice to be back and I'll have to catch up on what has been happening here! I missed y'all!

we love Sana Fe.

What was your little hole in the wall? Where else do you eat when you go there?

I went to college there, so we ate at cheap places!

La Choza was good and not too expensive. El Farol has fabulous food (not cheap, though!)

Our main hole-in-the-wall was called Don Diego's and it was in the De Vargas Mall. It was run by the same folks who own Thomasina's, but without the tourist prices.

And there was another place--I could never remember the name of it at the time, and can't now...I'll drive past when we're there and report back.

There was a great place off the Plaza called The Burrito Company--fabulous burritos swimming in green chile. It was sort of Mexican fast food, but it was pretty good for that.

My mouth is already watering...

Is there anything better than a limey margarita, warm tortilla chips, fresh guacamole,

and sun-warmed Mexican tiles as you sit in the shade under an ice-blue sky and nosh...

{green chile sigh}

I may need to rent "The Tao of Steve" tonight. I'm having a solipsistic moment.

Funny you should mention Tao of Steve.

Love that movie. It's based on someone who went to my college (St. John's College--Great Books Program, but the movie was filmed at the College of Santa Fe). Steve was a senior when I was a freshman. I didn't really know him, but I knew of him (we all knew each other--very small school). And I love Donal Logue.

Other good NM movies:

Off the Map
The Milagro Beanfield War (I actually have a hard time watching this one because it makes me so homesick)

No, the place that closed was Don Diego's.

But Maria's was the place I was trying to think of--went there a lot in college. How clever of you to mention it! I could NEVER remember the name of the place.

Santa Fe...(sigh) That's just about the most magical place on the planet...

I still remember the Christmas snow on the plaza, the smell of roasting chilies on a brilliant golden sunlit October morning at the farmer's market, that big blue sky, the neon gold of the Aspens up on the mountains outside of town, those wonderful Santa Fe dinners...I need to go back.

My cuz just moved there - anybody know a nice girl to meet?

He's nice looking, mid-30's? employed, single dad of one little guy - who was the reason he moved there from the northeast.

Sound like he should just hang out at some of the local restaurants - there's plenty of nice girls there smileys/smile.gif
