One main thing I look for is MADE IN FRANCE - Costco's Kirkland brand is hard to beat
They are made in France (I would bet they are private label Staub because of the design of the lid is very similar to the one Staub used to make for QVC) and the prices are less than half of Le Creuset.
I have looked and Cuisinart, Lodge and quite a few others are made in China and I just have a hard time with something enameled made in China because of all the lead issues. Stainless or something like that made in China doesn't bother me.
Right now our Costco has a nice large round Dutch oven for $79 - think it is about 8 qts. I have purchased oval ovens, grill pans, etc. for gifts and myself and been very happy with them.
If you have a Le Creuset store and you have any 'ties' to the culinary industry, ask for the discount, it was pretty significant.
