homemade sparkling wine explosion

I tried carbonating wine in my SodaStream Penguin and ended up with about 1/3 of the carafe on the counter top! Mess notwithstanding, the idea has potential and I will try again. I like my sparkling water very lively but must show more self control when carbonating wine. Any tips?

I've wondered about that...

I've always done home brews with natural carbonization. Have been very intrigued with putting the bottle up the nozzle and splaying it with bubbles. But that sounds like what you're doing and its not working?

I am waiting on pins and needles to hear a solution.

And in the mean time, you have my sympathies for the mess.

for my next try

Next time I will stop after one whistle and/or pump the handle more slowly. It took quite a few pumps to even get to one whistle then the explosion took place at the 2nd or 3rd whistle. I take my water to 4 whistles because I like it lively.

this reminds me of my first home fermentation...

"The Art of Russian Cuisine" by Anne Volokh (or some such)...the recipe for cranberyy kvass!

Mixed it up, filtered and strained it, (as a student, so proud of myself for whipping up the weekend cheap libations), and then I sat and waited.

The tops started blowing off, the bottles started exploding, it was a war zone.

Fermentation (and carbonization) is dangerous!

I'm trying to remember what book it was that had the description of

all the root beer bottles stored under the house exploding...obviously the mental image stayed with me.
