Phoenix (North Phoenix on Bell Rd) and displayed in their produce section was honey crisp apples among the other apples (gala, delicious, machintosh...etc) and I was just too curious to try them so I bought 2 and when we got out to the truck, we ate them, DH & I, talk about oh so so so so delicious, JUICY, and tasty ~ not tart or too sugary, and YES it did have a hint of honey to it ~ DH is a chemist and said that they are definately hybrid with a honey rinse/soak. We like them so much we went back in and bought 8 more, my son and his fiance each ate one and liked them a lot. I'M HOOKED ON HONEY CRISP APPLES Definately worth it... I can't say enough how extremely (no exageration) juicy and tasty ~ anxious to make a pie with them.

Anyone in the Phx area, their deli sells capicola and the produce is delicious and very clean area, I was impressed with their variety, they do use Archer Farms cold cuts, but I've had them before and they are very good

honey crisp are my absolute favorite!

They were created as a hybrid from honeygolds and something else in the 1960s at the University of Minnesota. They are slightly more expensive than other apples, but they are so crispy, with a perfect sweet/tart balance. I used to buy them all the time in MN, i think the peak season is October/November. I haven't seen them here in the Bay Area, but i brought some back over Thanksgiving when I was back in MN.

Fry's at 44th and Thomas has had them since October. They are now...

...2.59 per pound, but worth every penny.

In years past they have only been in the markets for a short time... maybe a month or so. This year, longer.

Our favorite!

I just discovered them this year too - YUM!!

Absolutely love these apples - they're definitely my favorite. THey're so crunchy and so juicy. I'm sad their season is so short.

I tried them in a pie, and I'm not sure if it was the apples, or because I didn't cook it long enough, but it didn't thicken up. I would rather save these for eating, and use Fuji's in my pies.

They were in the stores here a couple of months ago, and I haven't seen them recently. I assumed their season was over. Maybe they'll come back here....?

We love Honey Crisp Apples. They were even better when they were in season. Right now we're getting

the ones that have been in cold storage.

I LOVE Honey Crisp! In Illinois we bought them from a Michigan farmer.

They were just the right size, too. Here in PA, we've found them at Wegman's, but they're about the size of my head. Still fab, though.

We also LOVE Honeycrisp apples. They are only available a short

time here. My farmers market is loaded with West VA ones in the fall. I have never tried baking with them either, we just enjoy them out of hand. (I don't usually go to Wegmans so I don't know if the one here carries them.)

If you do make a pie, let me/us know how it goes...

someone told me that they had too high of a water content to work well. A couple years ago CI did an apple pie (very labor intensive as I find CI to be!) where they pre-cooked the apples in a saute pan prior to piling them in the crust- I've thought this would be the method I'd try the HC apples, but I usually just chow them out of hand!
