Horrible news just reported from Japan - from the Associated Press...

Chapman University said they are setting up a radiation monitor for the west coast

I can't find a transcription of the report online, and I wish I'd paid closer attention to the news report, but they said something about setting it up in Alaska as that is where it would be likely to hit first... Ang, Nan - everyone be safe up there!

I imagine that's not avail. to the public, no; all I meant was that there's plenty of monitoring. smileys/smile.gif

I work on an Air Force Base, and they have sent several messages about safety and monitoring. we

are quite safe---the radiation would have to reach 30,000 feet to the jet stream to travel over here or the west coast, and it would most likely disipate before reaching us. Our state, as well as all of the west coast states will have state agencies monitoring this. your TV stations or newspapers should have links to public safety/preparedness agencies that will have current information.

and I was helped awake this morning by a 3.6 quake just 18 miles from my house. I got a good shake

and actually heard the quake before it struck. My boss also heard/felt it. It sounds like a train or truck rumbling just before the shaking. not always, but this time it was quite evident.

I so agree, tornados and earth quakes just appear, hurricanes often have a day or so warning?

,

My mom lived for a while in the midwest and spent HOURS in the basement during hurricane warnings...

she said she would take an earthquake ANY day... really hated just sitting around all the time waiting and waiting and waiting...

Why would there be hurricane warnings in the Midwest? A basement

for me would be a swimming pool and we usually have 5 days or more to prepare for hurricanes.
Sounds more like a tornado.
