How did I not know this? TRUE Greek feta cheese can be made with goat milk?

From the Fooducate website (I was checking Athenos feta cheese)

"Feta cheese, of Greek origin, is a white crumbly and rindless cheese. It is traditionally made from sheep or goat milk and has a rich tangy flavor. In the US, Feta cheese is made from cow's milk and while still delicious, does not have as strong a flavor."

What lead me down this path? A crossword puzzle clue, that's what. It was a simple 4-letter word with a simple clue: "Goat Cheese." I knew in my crossword-loving heart that the answer was FETA, but my culinary taste buds and olfactory senses said: "Nah...no way. My mouth has NOT been fooled this long because I can smell goat cheese a mile away. Okay, maybe not a mile...but definitely when it's 6" from my nose."

It smells like dirty feet.

I can deal with chèvre if it has been diluted with cream cheese or double cheese or has jam spread on top. But not the ashy logs. Those I can not abide.

So...apparently, all these years, I have NOT had authentic feta cheese.

Apparently that's a good thing. Because I like feta.
