How do you clean your KA meat grinding attachment?

I wanted to use mine this past weekend but with my "new and improved" eyes, I could see something on the inner-most turn of the shaft (picture looking DOWN the feed shaft). I tried shoving in a sponge and turning it (did nothing), then shoved a green heavy-duty scrubber in there and turning it (did nothing), then tried a bristle brush (did nothing) and finally boiled the whole thing.

I think I can still see something there...it's just an off-white color...not as white as the rest of the corkscrew cylinder. Before, with cataracts in both eyes, I would have never seen this slight color difference. Now I'm a little freaked out and don't want to use it.

See...yet another reason why meat and I don't get along.

I've had this grinder attachment for 10 years, but have only used it three times...twice for meat and once for nuts.

Is this the white plastic grinder or the metal one (outside). Just speaking in

general I can't think of anything that could survive the drying and then boiling.
Did you try a sharp pointy knife to scrape it.

It's the interior of the white plastic shaft. I can't scrap the spot because of the

molded curves designed to mate with the removable metal corkscrew.

Try this Marilyn

I have a love/hate relationship with meat grinders. In the past I have had this problem- and as odd as it might sound, I took a sturdy bagel, partially soaked it with a heavy Dawn solution then ground it up. Then I took wet cabbage and ground it. Then another bagel. Once the spot got wet and soaked with some Dawn it finally dislodged.

ha! Only a woman would be that creative. Okay, I'll give it a go next time I've got sauerkraut. It's

another one of those "once a year" cravings that I don't keep stocked.
