How is everybody? Hoping you are well

Dh and I went to the polls on Tuesday to vote, walk several miles everyday, and have been in the car to drop off/pick up outside at both sons' homes, but we have not been in public since Tuesday. We are not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms. Colleenhttps://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html?te=1&nl=morning-briefing&emc=edit_nn_20200315

Fine here

other than a couple of trips to the food store, and dinner last night in our favorite local eatery where tables are well spaced, we are keeping pretty much to ourselves.

People have been really good about keeping a good distance away from others and the patience I've seen in the supermarkets is unprecedented!

Local schools are mostly closed for the next week or so but with weather improving, it should be easier to get fresh air and exercise.

I hope all are well and stay that way.

Fine here too. No incidents on my side of the Smokys. Store and gym were relatively empty, but

I noticed gym users were extremely careful about wiping things down. Publix and Ingles stores are out of toilet paper and the meat sections were clearing out, but other than that, food was plentiful. I've avoided drugstores and have been working on my house, realizing I used to dream about having time to stay home, cook healthy foods, exercise and work on home projects instead of getting up at 4:00 AM, commuting for an hour, working 10-12 hours, commuting home, dinner and then bed to repeat again. Ad nauseum.

I didn't realize it would take a pandemic to ensure that opportunity. Be careful what you wish for.

I've pretty much self-quarantined

but then I have been a hermit lately since I work from home. But with the entire state shut down, I'm contented to be at home. I do plan to go vote on Tuesday. The mess was already underway after the deadline for absentee ballots passed. I usually go around 9:30-10:00 and walk right up and vote with no line. If there is a line, I'll leave and return later since I'm a mile away.

Glorious sunshine today and I worked in the garden all morning. I put in 2 dozen more Oriental lilies, 50 dutch iris, planted a flat of pansys in my patio urns, and sowed 6 seed trays for my summer butterfly/ hummingbird/ cottage/ cutting flower garden (Giant double Zinnias, Eskimo Marigolds, Lupines, Delphiniums, Larkspur, Bachelor Buttons, Giant Mix Snapdragons, Cosmos, Lilliput Zinnias for the borders, etc.).

Stay safe. No touching. Wash your hands frequently.

Our family is practising “social isolation” as a precautionary measure.

My parents are in their 80s and 90s and are only leaving their home for critical medical issues now. Their church has stopped live services and live-streamed the first sermon today, with only the minister and pianist in attendance. My sister’s church has suspended the weekly service too.

Our province has placed restrictions on gatherings of 250 or more, but excluded churches and schools. There are other exclusions of a more necessary nature, such as stores, etc.

I’m doing the grocery shopping for both households, but have halved my exposure by only doing so every two weeks. In addition, I am taking the recommended precautions of wiping down the grocery cart handles and being mindful not to touch my face with my hands. At the end of the shopping trip, I wipe all the “touched” surfaces in the vehicle as well as my hands. Then wash my hands upon entry of my parents place. (I really don’t want to expose them to this illness at this stage of their lives.)

I certainly don’t think there is any reason to panic, but I do think it is important to heed the recommendations of our medical community.

Stay safe, all!

My split personalities and I are keeping a healthy distance away from each other.

Baking Marilyn just pulled a Pecan Bundt Cake out of the oven and is currently steaming Laurie Colwin's Boston Brown Bread. Baking Marilyn has never steamed anything before and is now quivering with anticipation because she has no clue how to tell if its done.

Kondo Marilyn spent two hours mounting pegboard on cement block wall in basement and organizing tools in a satisfying way. Each crescent wrench was hugged, while the power hammer drill received an encouraging slap on the back.

Streaming Marilyn just watched the entire Season 2 series of Altered Carbon on Netflix and now her back hurts and the couch has a Streaming Marilyn divot in it.

Mindless Marilyn has played 1,307,678,309 games of solitaire.

Healthy Marilyn ate a kale and butter lettuce salad with avocado, supremed orange slices and jalapeno toast croutons.

Unhealthy Marilyn just polished off 2 slices of homemade pizza with turkey sausage, grilled mushrooms, homemade pesto and fresh mozzarella.

Retired Marilyn is huddled in the corner, weeping and shredding her latest financial statement. Of course, she should save those in case the toilet paper runs out.

Thanks for, once again, making me laugh! I, too, am hunkering down but a friend just called

and asked if I wanted to go to Atlantic City this week!! Crazy!

So far ok. Sf Bay Area will go shelter in place at midnight.

Only essential places will be open and we are to stay inside till April 7th unless going to these places. It will be formally announced at 1pm today. My county is a hot spot w 114 cases and 2 deaths. Store shelves are empty. I tried to do Walmart pickup last Thursday and half my order was out of stock. I went to four other stores after that and gave up. The line in tj’s wrapped to the back of the store so I just walked out. I’ll wait till everyone else gets their apocalypse stash before trying again since as a compromised health old person I shouldn’t go out. I’m not going to be without food, I just won’t be able to put together cohesive meals.

Attached is John Hopkins real time cases info.

I went shopping again today

right now we have 13 people in our home. 2 of my college kids got sent home and we have guests leaving over the next few days - in theory at least. So we have a lot of demands on food/supplies.

What I liked seeing on these excursions is that people are pretty calm in the face of empty shelves, lines and all of the anxiety everyone is feeling. I had one older lady behind me in line pretty agitated but for the most part people have been good natured both the shoppers and staff.

I was able to buy some all purpose flour today. At 7:30 am the store's restock was already almost completely empty. Still missed on the rice and TP! The plan is to help keep the peace in the home over the next few weeks by keeping people busy among other things, baking. Amazon Prime currently has the first season of The French Chef from 1963 streaming free. The rest of the seasons you need to order the PBS premium channel. So I learned a few things including the apricot glaze method for pastry dough so even though grape jelly was nowhere to be found there were several jars of apricot and I purchased some apricot preserves to make the glaze and plan to do french fruit tart for the first time.

Yeah I’ve looked for ap flour for two weeks, but I have some bread flour

Worst case I’ll go/order from central milling in Petaluma.
