How serendipidous. We were just discussing fresh food and helping the homeless....

...and since I now pay taxes to NC, I get a free magazine every few months. The one that just arrived on Tuesday has an article about a local community garden that feeds the needy. It was organized by a former editor of "Mother Earth" magazine and is open to volunteers. It serves as a learning garden from children (sprouts!) up to college interns.

Called The Lord's Acre, it is not affiliated with any church. Instead it is named after a Depression-era effort where local NC farmer's donated the produce from one acre to help feed others.

Great article.

A noted chef/restauranteur in our city has opened an

excellent restaurant downtown called The King's Kitchen. The staff is all homeless or poverty stricken persons who he trains in the restaurant business, and gives !00% of the profits of this location to the homeless. It is a REALLY good place to eat--good southern food. He has two other restaurants also. NICE man. This is his and his wife's "mission" project.

Sounds great Charley. We have a restaurant in Redding that sets aside one day each week

for anyone to come in and eat. You can order what you want, and pay what you think it is worth. All proceeds that day are donated.

I think there is a restaurant in Denver that you pay what you

can/want--don't know that they donate anything, but people who are hungry can theoretically get fed, I guess.
