uninspired. Any ideas on what to feed a crew that size (that is the size of our immediate family now!). I don't feel like making spaghetti or lasagna. For my son's actual birthday day we are having breakfast for breakfast for lunch and breakfast for dinner. uggg. Thanks!

Turkey dinner with the fixins goes far, Tetrazzini and salad, Hoisin pot roast with rice and veggies

Souvlaki and briami?

Taco bar / fajita bar; w/ all the fixins....Nachos, iceburg lettuce salad, rice, black beans, happy

happy b-day to your son!

Best,
Barb

Roast chicken. A lot of food, a little work.

(or two). Or roast beef, roast turkey, pot roast, etc.

I'm assuming it's mainly adults, right?

Tossed green salad, and along Barb's example, how about a baked potato bar?

Bakery birthday cake.

Everything doesn't always have to be fussy and gourmet-ish to be good, especially something smack in the middle of Christmas preparations! ;o)

Friend of mine did a brunch this weekend...made a bunch of crepes in advance

and provided sweet & savory crepe fixings. He cooked the crepes in advance, separated by parchment. Then warmed them in the oven (or in his case, a steam tray). People loved it!! Savory included minced ham, cheese, steamed (instead of sauteed) red peppers, etc.

Sweet offerings included jam, nutella, and whipped cream.

Major hit!

My only suggestion is to make more crepes than you think you need. These were very popular. And depending on how old your son is, I bet you could teach him how to make the crepes. smileys/smile.gif

My friend also set up a bloody mary bar with the vodka already stirred into the

tomato juice. Made it much easier to fix a drink. Just pour and add your favorite toppings! Besides the usual olives, pickled onions, etc, he offered cilantro with a small spoon. Cilantro in a spicy bloody mary was a revelation! I'll definitely be doing that again.

Thanks Barb!

We are having our annual Mexican Fiesta on Xmas Day, so I don't want to make Mexican. But he would love a taco bar.

It will be about half and half adults and kids.

A baked potato bar sounds really good to me right now. The last thing I want to do right now is fussy or gourmetish! Simple sounds really good right now. Thanks D.

This sounds right up our alley.

I can have some premade and some virgins for my pregnant stepdaughter and the kids. The kids love tomato juice or Clamato which is what we use to make Bloody Mary's with. Great idea! Thanks!

It's going to be a potato bar and one of the toppings will be chicken tetrazzini.

Thanks for all the great ideas!

Do you have a good pizza dough? How about a calzone-making bar?

We did this once in ABQ. I prepared dough then cut/rolled into small balls (6" diameter when rolled). Cover well with plastic wrap so they don't dry out. I also made up a basic red sauce and had mozzorella cheese, but asked guests to bring their favorite pizza topping. We ended up with artichoke hearts, sauteed mushrooms, sauteed onions, peppers, sausage, etc.

We put everything out on the counter and then folks rolled, filled, and pinched closed their own calzone. Each was identified with colored toothpicks, then popped into a preheated hot oven.

It would be even better now since folks have pizza tones.
