I am looking for some bakery display ideas. I cannot afford

to go out and buy much, and definitely not any acrylic plastic displays, but baskets and such, I can find inexpensively or free.

I have a lot of miscellaneous items that are around the antique store that I could utilize also. Has anyone seen any really creative displays? I don't have a huge amount of space in my booth downstairs, but the sky is the limit upstairs.

Thanks, again, so much!

Try Googling "How To Make A Cake Stand" (or Cupcake Stand)

Candle pillar holders also work well - very inexpensive at crafts stores especially when using their coupons

Thank you, Deb! I made these last year to give candy as gifts.

I never would have thought of making these for myself. It is perfect! I even have the candlestick holders and glue. Now just to round up some plates. Would you do a variety of patterns and shapes or keep it simple by using one color or design? This is not my forte.

Depends on the look you want to achieve:)

If you want a vintage, shabby chic or funky look - I'd do a variety

If I was going more for classic elegance I would stick to more of one color or shades of one color.

How about those glass (shower) tiles you buy at the

Home Depot. I have been to catered dinners and have seen food placed on them. Sometimes two are stacked for height variation on the table.

Sometimes wine/liquor stores will give away their wooden wine boxes.

Remove the hinges, flip over, and voila! Nifty stand. smileys/wink.gif

(Note: It's been a long time since I tried finagling one of these, but maybe it's worth a shot.)

I'm a fool for anything under a glass cover. You can see, but you can't touch...

...sort of like the De Walletjes district in Amsterdam, but with pastry cream.

I believe Victoria magazine did a dessert table display with all sorts of glass covers...hurricane lamps, clear glass cups (for single cupcakes), terranium containers and glass plates set on top of candle holders. Sometime punch bowls can be flipped and used as a cover. The unifying elements were clear glass and coverage.

Craigslist and Goodwill are your friends here...

It kinda depends on if you want all in a display for your access or some items wrapped and are reach/grab. Also, in an antique mall I bet some have things like cake stands/etc for sale, maybe offer to display your goods to highlight them for sale in exchange for using them (even the stand is for sale!) It might buy you some time till you find displays you want at a good price.

Rattling off some thoughts:

On CL people sell wedding supplies they used. I saw lots of clear cupcake stands.

Goodwill has all kinds of dishes/platter/baskets - don't forget garden pots. Many glass items or pots can be turned upside down and topped with a plate or platter. I would keep to the same color looks or all clear.

Use stacks of anything -- books come to mind to create lifts and levels and top with a plate/platter. A small set of drawers that could maybe sit table top or of course cabinet of some kind could be displayed open with items inside.

I'm a fan of glass domes or bell jars as well and would go a long way to entice people. Even a large clear jar could hold something like brownies.

A plant or cookware stand would use vertical space.

Don't know if they could be used anywhere, but I love these sweet indiv paper cupcake stands at the link.

Very cute!!!

but I don't think I could trust that chandelier stand without putting a base on it to be sure it couldn't tip over.

Don't forget to turn things upside down for a different look in layering...

A lot of small plates, bowls and vases work just as well inverted. A little food-safe "glue" (I've used thinly applied cream cheese where it's least likely to be discovered...at the contact points) and they'll stay together pretty well...as long as they aren't being jostled.
