I am now a happy camper..... Lost power for 5 days

It has been REALLY cold at night. I think I did a good job holding it together, but last night 3:00, I had my mini stress breakdown.

After much reflection, I realized that while I am tired of all the takeout food, restaurants, wearing 3 coats, lines at dunkin donuts, taking showers at the YMCA, thrown out food from the freezer and fridge... The "Stressor" for me was that I could not cook. I live to be in the kitchen. If I am not there, I am w. you guys thinking about and being inspired about what to cook or in the supermarket.

I was at the Library this evening, charging phones / lanterns/ flashlights... Returned this evening to power!! I am a happy camper!

NOW, to figure out what to cook up first! Thanks for letting me share! : )

Oh, and I have alot of Laundry to do!!

Oh that's just awful barb! That's really roughing it! Well, what do you have left to cook?

Welcome back to our warm and fuzzy cyberspace kitchen. We'll think of something!

Um, how about indulging in a well-deserved drink before you decide what to make?

Cheers to you barb!

I'm proud of you that it took so long to break down.

I have whined a lot after 2 1/2 days and the interior of the house down to the forties. We can't get around in snow though so nothing is open to go to for food, coffee, etc.

It is a trial to get through isn't it?

I've been through this twice. No power for 1 week in September 1985 on Long Island after Hurricane Gloria (and just stocked up at the store and filled my student freezer--bad timing).

Then, couple Septembers back here in Cincinnati when Hurricane Ike unbelievably wound up coming through Cincinnati and wiping out 90% of the Cincinnati power grid. The power stayed off for 6 days on that one. The last day was hardest as the lights across the street came on and mine didn't.

I remember the feeling as dusk fell and I knew I'd soon be in darkness with no toys to play with, nor light to read or play music by. It became a bigger torment with each passing day. Playing scales on the cello in the dark has a thrill for only so long...

You have my sympathies and glad to hear you have your power back on!

Sorry you had to go through all you did, but welcome back. These things certainly make us

appreciate things we often take for granted, don't they? Sleep well tonight, and be toasty warm. smileys/smile.gif

What a great attitude. I'd have had a stress breakdown much sooner, and it wouldn't have been a mini

If it's any consolence barb... Omar Sharif and Julie Christie

had a very icy dacha to live in, but NO Dunkin Donuts or Pizza Hut nearby to go to!! You did well girl!

Just kidding!

Scrambled eggs, bacon & toast for tomorrow's breakfast??

Oh barb, I am so glad you got your power back.

We lost ours for a couple hours and we were all whiny about it. You did good. Our house is all electric, so when we lose power, we lose everything. I think a nice big pot of soup is in order.

Thanks for letting me vent. Much better now! Now, to go through the fridge / freezer and prepare

for garbage day : (

I did open the freezer, and while I did not see anything really $$; the sad stuff that we lost is my 6 hour tomato sauce, the spicy chicken soup, goulash, Carrot Soup, etc... : (

I know only you guys understand!

Oh well, I am warm and happy again!

By the way, I realized too late that my insurance would have covered losses from the freezers and

with no deductible.

Good idea, but take a photo first. Folks down here in FL would take

advantage of that benefit and claim TWO refrigerators full of expensive meats, when in reality, the old one in the garage was just filled with fish bait and beer.

Feeling your pain--DAY 6 for us smileys/frown.gif House is 42 degrees) When we have no power, there's no water.

Tired of being a refugee. At least we have a friend's place to crash and take a shower, but it's really stressful trying to get to work.
I know, my freezer had all sorts of sauce and stock that I have to toss. Had a bangin' turkey neck to make stock with this weekend. Ugh. So disgusted.

My sympathies to you too Mo! You need a nice Irish Coffee for your ordeal. Any idea when your

power will be back on?

You're caught Michael! You had tons of wild frozen shrimp in that

fridge and that's why you ate it! You know it makes an excellent bait for catching fish.

P.S. If I were you, I'd fill up that garage fridge full of shrimp and take a photo without the date.
