I bought a top round roast on sale and now don't know what to do with it...

If you like your meat medium rare to rare, you can dry roast it at 375 degrees to an

internal temperature of about 225 degrees.

You did. I was going to make it on Sunday....

...hoping to use my new crock pot so I wouldn't have to mess with too much but maybe I shouldn't this go around. How would you season it?

Sorry I was AWOL. I had a sick kid.

Thanks for the advice.

Kathleen

Just salt and pepper for me, but you could use some sort of rub if you like it spicy. At the..

end of the cooking time, you could deglaze the pan with some canned stock or wine to create a jus. You could also add some mirepois to the pan before you started (2 part onion-1 part carrot-1 part celery.

You could definely do this roast in the crock pot, but I don't own one so don't have a clue.

Wow. Thanks for all the ideas...

...my live in nanny just moved back to China and I am struggling a bit trying to do everything I did with no help at the same level I managed before. My husband spoke to me again this morning about trying to set the bar a bit lower in order to not be so stressed and tired. Meals are an area in particular he pointed out where I need to scale back a bit. "Embrace the Pop-Tart" as he put it. Don't know if this Slow Food chick will go that far but I am trying and buying the Crock Pot which I have never used before is one step in that direction.

Wonder if the sandwich AngAk posted is super spicy? I have three little boys who are terrific, adventurous eaters but anything too spicy that just won't do.

Thanks again.
Kathleen

Our Mimi has 3 boys too. Maybe they can help out...that would keep things simple and let them learn

at the same time. Plus I'm always amazed that kids will eat the strangest things when they've made it. I give as proof to the jury my niece Kara, who would only eat plain, ungarnished, unsauced pasta. That's it.

Then I asked her to help me make zucchini bread (flecks of green peel and all) and she did very well. She served us warm slices, telling everyone how delicious it was. Go figure.
