wonderful Thanksgiving meal for about 20 people every year. Nothing is needed except hungry people. But, How can I possibly go to someone's home for dinner empty handed. This year I brought a homemade green bean casserole from Alex on Food TV. Recipe was delicious except for the cayenne. Next time I will sub some rosemary and thyme. But the pecan pie is what did it.

I admit I am used to the old standard pecan pie that dad loved so much. But I have a 10" pottery pie plate I wanted to use and so I searched for a 10" pecan pie. I came up with a Texas State Fair winner from Food and Wine

This pie was a bit different for me but REALLY DELICIOUS all the same. Another guest at the dinner, who is very well traveled and loves food, declared it the best pecan pie he had ever eaten and could he take home a piece of the leftovers?

What was your Thanksgiving dinner success story?

I think Pecan Pie, by nature, is very sweet!! Not sure this one was any more sweet than others

I have had. A small piece goes a long way!

That's why I like my recipe - 2 cups pecans to 1-1/2 cups sweet. Really yummy smileys/smile.gif

Simple and fabulous - more pecans that most recipes, which I like better:

Pecan Pie from Mom and Patty

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup dark karo syrup
3 large or 4 medium eggs
4 tbl. melted butter
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups pecans

Mix together all except pecans until well blended. Stir in pecans. Put a 9” unbaked pie crust on a pizza pan or baking sheet (to catch spills) and pour filling into it. Bake at 325 deg. for 50 minutes. Watch it for the last 15 minutes and put foil around the crust edges if they are getting too brown.
