I found this odd: PioneerWoman just posted her entire grocery shopping purchase

What I found odd was: she was buying lots of processed beef? Don't they own one of the biggest cattle ranches in OK? So wouldn't they process their own beef? They know the source, they know the quality...why wouldn't you want to eat the best? Don't ranchers eat their own product or do they make more selling it?

Or is she just priming the Internet Viewing Public to go forth and buy beef?

A lot of cattle are finished in feed lots. They may not like skinny grass fed beef.

Or with the drought a lot of ranchers have been forced to sell off their herds because there is no grass to graze them & if they can even find hay to feed it is astronomical.

Nope, they sell all the cattle they raise. A few months ago Marlboro

Man a pretty detailed post on selling the cattle. It was really detailed, rounding them up, negotiating price with the dealer, loading them in trucks etc. It was really interesting and he even showed a couple of invoices.

I don't know if any of you get Chris. Kimball's "Letters from Vermont" emails.

It's a vehicle to sell CI products, but his talent for story-telling comes through.

He gives updates to his family's life on a Vermont farm, including raising pigs for personal consumption.

I was reminded of him when you ladies began discussing PW and her cattle ranch. What a privilege it must be to be able to do what Kimball does. I understand it's not easy and there is a lot of work involved, but I would just love to know what I was putting on the table for my family.
