I gave my two weeks notice at the cafe last week. My last day will be this Thursday/Friday.

I gave it a lot of thought and decided that I am missing so much time with my family. I leave at 9am on Sat and Sun and get home at 6:30pm exhausted. My two days off were Monday and Tuesday when no one is home.

I told the owner of the cafe and he tried to talk me into just working weekdays, but I stuck to my guns and said no.

He isn't thrilled, but he already asked someone to take over for me. I am on great terms with her, so I will be able to continue to make my salsa in the commercial kitchen and maybe work one day a week if I want. I will probably want to do that because I will miss everyone.

I rented a booth downstairs and I am so excited about stocking it with all kinds of goodies. The person coming in likes to cook "Midwest" so I think she will do great. She used to own a diner herself.

I gave it two years and enjoyed it for the most part, but I am REALLY looking forward to having some time off this summer with the kids. My son will be a junior in high school next year, so time with him is fleeting. It was one of my main considerations in this.

Anyway, I wanted to thank you all for your ideas and encouragement for the last few years, heck for many many years! Will keep you posted. smileys/smile.gif

After having been married to a self-employed guy, I could never do it.

It is so hard to have any work/life balance when you work all the time.

Wow! I am sure that was a very difficult decision for you as I know how much you enjoy cooking,

creating, and the market. BUT, I admire your decision. Time does seem to go by so quickly. On a personal note, Feels like yesterday, I held my parents surprise 40th anniversary, and last Sat, I held the surprise 50th.

You will certainly enjoy the time w/ your son, and these are important years for you to be engaged / available as he is making important decisions re: his next steps.

I know it must have been a stressful couple of weeks making the decision and happy for you that it is a done deal. You can always go back!

All the best!

Barb

Bravo Dawn! What a great experience. And good to know when a project has run its course.

I've loved hearing your stories and the progress you made but knew too that you devoted

a great deal of time and effort to the business. We've been business owners for all our married years and it is so nice now to be retired and not have those crazy, long hours, and the employee responsibilities. Bravo for you!

Great Job! (Dawn: knows when to hold'em, knows when to fold'em aka walk away smileys/smile.gif

Sounds like you'll have more time for family and that's always a good thing!

You will never regret it

You will never regret giving up the work for the extra time you will get to spend with your family. You will always find the time to cook and be with others.
