The fridge died on Saturday and I've been living out of an ice chest till today. I've put a link for a picture of my new family friend... note the color looks flat gray but it's stainless and the sides are painted to look same which is good in my open kitchen.

Here is my question, and no I'm not blond I just play one on the internet smileys/wink.gif ..what do I set the temp at on this puppy? I mean it doesn't have where I can enter a number just a touch screen scroll bar 'warmer or colder' on both the fridge and freezer sections -- and no advice in the instructions (naturally). I have no idea what the old one was set at. I'm assuming I set the fridge to the middle and the freezer to you know - cold? LOL

Any thoughts -- what is yours set at?

PS -- and a BIG thank you for all the well wishes I got about losing Maxx (the cat) and my PC hard drive over the holidays. You guys are the BEST! Soon I will hire someone to get the data off the HD...but good news...I found an old flash drive I uploaded most of my recipes on a while back!

Beeeutiful. Now I know what F&P is. I've seen the name & wondered. My fave temp was 37. But

humidity plays a part, I believe. You'll have fun adjusting.

that's the temp ours is set on and it keeps food beautifully. I even had a roast chicken,

half eaten that was still good after 8 days.

I have the same style Maria but ours is a counter-depth kenmore elite. you do give up some storage space with the counter-depth but it is so much better in our open kitchen that I don't mind. not to mention, I don't have as many "science projects" developing in the back o the frig '-))

Very beautiful. The book that goes with my poor-cousin fridge says

34 to 40F, and 0 for the freezer. I don't know why there's such a range, except it'll go up and down depending what and how much is in it, and how often the door is opened, and maybe depending on the weather. Buy a cheap outdoor thermometer (do they make fridge thermometers?) and use that until you find a setting that works for you.

Randi -- the Kenmore was my other choice!!!

I looked all over and the best were those two by far for counter depth bottom freezer. Sears told me Amana made the Kenmore and it was nicer than the Amana itself -- or the Viking they make too. These were the only two that thought to put drawer guides/rollers on the slide out shelf in the freezer. Can you tell I'm an engineer at heart?

The toss up came when I got this one for less and the fact I couldn't work the veggie drawer tilt out fronts on the Kenmore. Also, I love this has lift out easy to clean bins for both fridge/freezer. smileys/smile.gif

they should be next to oven thermometers, have a "green" zone for fridge and freezer.

Just saw this in Fine Cooking magazine #90. I was surprised to see such a low suggested temp for

the fridge. Be careful what you store close to the vents where the cold air comes in. I've frozen lettuce by putting the container next to a vent on the bottom shelf.

Check Your Temp

Food safety experts call 40º to 140ºF the danger zone, where bacteria thrive, doubling every 20 minutes. I was shocked to find my refrigerator registered 44ºF. But I’m not alone: A recent survey found that 80% of home refrigerators were set too warm.

A basic refrigerator or freezer thermometer is a small investment to make sure you’re storing food at the proper temperature and maintaining peak quality. I particularly like this Chaney Instrument model 03128 because suction cups mount it to the side wall of the fridge or freezer, out of the way, unlike other versions that hang from a rack or perch on a shelf. At only 5 inches long, the stainless-steel thermometer has blue bars indicating the ideal temperature for your freezer (–10º to 0ºF) and refrigerator (33º to 40ºF). Retail price is $10, and you can buy it at Amazon.com.

Thanks for heads up, think I'll get a couple of those for work. Spend a lot of time crawling around

in walkins retriving the little hangup ones. I don't trust the exterior ones,

my choice was made by asking the repair guys about quality. they said the only

probs they have seen with the Kenmore were cosmetic. the Fisher wasn't avail locally to even have a look at. I know my son wanted the Fisher but ended up with a Kenmore, but can't remember why.

so far, I've been very happy with it and it's a dream to clean inside. all my shelves and drawers come out and I like that you can change the shelf spacing so easy. sounds like you're gonna love yours!
