I had the great good fortune to meet and spend some time with Nan this weekend in AK.

What a delightful person and she certainly could write a book, or 2, about her many travels and cooking adventures on the high seas. She promised not to tell you all about the box of Sangria wine I have in the fridge at the cabin. LOL!

well it's MUCH better than a fish net full of sangria...

or was it a boxful of bottles of sangria?

but I bet Nan would agree that Sangria set in fishnets cooling in the water over the boat would be

mighty fine indeed.

Whoops, forgot to give her hush money! We had a wonderful visit!!!!!!

A lovely, charming woman just like we knew; and a wonderful cabin! Beautifully designed with a grand view of the river and the leaves changing.
Ang, there were lots of swans on Tern Lake and right after that the leaves blowing across the road like gold coins.
Will pm you later with arrangements for the hush money, SSSHHH

Nan was up in our neck of the woods, and we hooked up on Saturday/sunday. We figured out that we

live further apart than some of you in the lower 48/Canada. Alaska is such a big state. So nice to put a face with a foodie. The leaves are magnificent this week. Wish I could paint. We were wondering if Brian from Alaska was lurking out there. Yoohoo Brian.

Woo Hoo .....

Yep, I am around. Sorry I missed you two. I spent part of my weekend down at a camp on the Kasilof. Its a bit of a rustic operation with cabins and a common cook area. And, it has a big fire pit. We burned a "chimney log" (the kind that is rotted and therefore hollow in the middle) and it turned into a very high BTU "Wok like" cooking utensil. So ... I took a cast iron wok, dropped in some Olive Oil, garlic, and onion ... quick cooked that, then dropped in a pound of fresh Kodiak scallops and quick fried them. I poured in a healthy spot of good Tequila, fired it off, and finished them with a little minced fresh ginger, some more garlic, red pepper, and salt. Not bad for a camp fire meal!!

But, I am glad you two met and spent some time together. Not much time left to enjoy the "snowless" backcountry.

You were just down the road!!! Sounds like a heavenly meal, must get us all together someday.

That's great news! Did you two manage to have something to EAT with your drinks? LOL!

Any photos taken that you could share?

Ang, I've been meaning to ask, what's your kitty's name (your garden photo that's on my monitor)?

Oh man, so that's the wonderful aroma we smelled all the way up to Sterling! LOL

Your campfire meal sounds so very delish(channeling Rachael Ray again, yikes). If your ears were itching it was because we were wondering where you had been all summer. I have some ripe cherry tomatoes to pick today and a bit of parsley and chives that I can still freeze. I have moose tracks in the yard, so I know that they have been munching on rose hips and the tracks lead right up to the mountain ash. It is finally getting tall enough to be almost out of reach for them. I'm afraid I just made Nan and me some hamburger and bean tostadas. I think you and Nan can share cooking duty when we meet up sometime. Big state, but small world.

That kitty is Gypsy. She loves her jungle. But only when I'm out there. She is a scaredy cat.

I have pics, but ....

I have yet to figure out the Flicker thinggy. I will hopefully get it done soon and will post the campfire pics.
Yep, winter is knockin' at the door. I live in the Muldoon area and we have a huge problem with moose. I don't have a garden, but I have lots of fruit trees and shrubs and they love them! Reminds me of what I have to do this weekend!
I have been outside a lot this summer and traveling for the job. Been checking in but not posting much. Couple weeks ago I took a cooler full of halibut, salmon, scallops, and smoked King Salmon to Lake Tahoe for a family reunion. Blackened the salmon, baked the halibut with buttered crumbs and macadamia nut crust (served on a bed of baked asparagus), seared the scallops in a chile crust, and served some roasted garlic smashed potatoes. It went over very well! I get the fresh (frozen) Kodiak scallops and they are awesome!
I am up for cooking anytime. I have just been limited by real time interruptions for awhile. It would be fun to have an Alaskan cookoff sometime.

Stay warm ... and dry .....
